Question about Fuji FinePix S5100 Digital Camera

Pictures are all white when using the flash

All pictures taken in doors are all white when using the flash. This started about two days ago. We are novice users and simply keep the camera in AUTO mode. My wife swears that she didnt change any of the settings. Matter of fact i didnt think any of the settings in AUTO mode could be changed on this camera. Anyway, when the flash is used in any setting including AUTO the picture is white. You can make out the outlines of the images in the picture so you know that the picture took. The camera takes great pictures outside even when the flash is used. The camera takes great pictures inside when the flash is not used and the lighting is ample. It seems as if the flash setting is too strong, if that is possible. But again, i thought that this cameras' AUTO mode didnt allow for settings to be modified. Looking at the pictures already on the XD card i can see a point in time 2 days ago where a good picture was taken using the flash and then 2 hours later when the next picture was taken and the picture is white.

When pictures are taken outside during the day they are unclear with some white horizontal lines and when taken indoors its ok.tried everything the manual said but still no changes

White shadow or white lines may occur if the light was too bright when you take the picture, especially in strong sun light. Have you turn off the flash light when you taking those picture ? If you haven't, then you should try to turn off your camera flash light manually. And I must remind you not to take a picture with your lens faced the sun light or other light (lamp etc) directly. Even if you take a picture outdoors, try to make your lens shaded by something, you can even use your own shadow to shade them.

Hope this help and be kind to rate please.

Day Light Pictures looks over exposed

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see the following for further info and a simple fix that may help:

http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2009/05/simple-fix-for-stuck-shutter.html

For your camera (the A460) it's not possible to set the shutter to 15 seconds. Instead, set it to manual mode, turn off the flash, go to a darkened room, take the picture and open the door while the red and yellow light are flashing. Repeat until the shutter becomes unstuck. However, I must say that the chances are probably not very good to fix this with this method. And unfortunately professional repair will be too costly. If repeated tries do not work, it might be time to consider a new camera.

Black pictures when using flash

The black images with flash mean that the Iris mechanism in the lens is not working properly, and that needs a professional camera repair service.

White pictures, low battery life, few pictures

I glued a small peice of plastic under the flash and above the camera lens to shade it from the flash when it goes off. I then only had 2 pictures out of 40 that showed a white picture. The plastic peice only sticks out about 1 inch and didn't affect the flash on the subject. I also drilled holes in the bottom and hooked up a 6 volt tractor battery to it this gave me over 1 month of battery life with another identical camera

Casio Exilim s500--horizontal lines in picture and autofocus creates blurry pics

It appears this problem is due a failing CCD device in many brand cameras. All the manufactures use the same source(s). I have not persued Casio as yet, but other companies are offering a recall to replace the CCD for free. I plan to use this approach with Casio. Search the web for "failing CCD in digital camera", it describes exactly what we are observing.
