My problem is exactly the same as the last post. I can't figure out what the problem is. I used it 1 week ago and it was fine. I recently turned it on and now get a bland screen. I can view my stored pictures and see the features on the screen but can not view any newly taken photos. I am wondering if it is a shutter of lens problem.

I have the same problem, yesterday it worked fine. Today I turned it on and black screen when it is on and ready to take a picture. I can review old pictures that are on my flash card and I can see all of the setup/menu screens. I tried taking a couple pictures with my screen black, and the picture is exactly what the screen shows, all black. I also tried the reset, LCD brightness and power-saving settings to no avail. Anyone have any other suggestions or should I just take it in to a local camera shop?

I have the same problem and have tried the solutions posted here, but nothing worked :( By the way, this problem first happened mid December. I didn't drop it or anything, it just suddenly started showing black screen. Then right around new year I turned it on and it worked for a day!!!

I'm thinking of sending it to Canon for repair...it should still be under warranty since I only bought it last August.

I have the same problem. It is like the lens cap is on (but there is no lens cap). I plan to send it to canon.

    Hi,

I tryed arclight1217 suggestions and still nothing. My son droped my SD750 and broke the lens cover. I ordered the parts (great deal) from darntoothysa and fixed that. When it first broke the screen was about 3/4 blurry pic. 1/4 black. a took a couple of pics with it like that (it was Xmas). Now, with lens cover fixed it is almost all black, all but a little bit of light at the bottom of the screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank You,
    Shannon

DON'T DUMP YOUR CAMERA JUST YET! I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE SOME INFORMATION ON YOUR CAMERA AND SOME THINGS FOR YOU TO TRY. FIRST YOUR CAMERA SITE SAYS THERE IS A SWITCH ON THE BACK SIDE OF YOUR CAMERA THAT SAYS " DISP " WHICH I ASSUME MEANS DISPLAY. PLEASE TRY PUSHING THIS BUTTON AND SEEING IF THIS WORKS? NEXT YOU NEED TO TRY TO REST YOUR CAMERA. THAT IS DONE BY GOING TO SETUP>CHOOSE RESET> HOLD DOWN MENU KEY FOR 5 SECONDS AND SEE IF THAT SOLVES THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT SOLUTION MIGHT BE THAT THE CAMERA FIRMWARE MAY NEED TO BE RELOADED TO RESET THE CAMERA TO FACTORY DEFAULTS. I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF THINGS, BUT THEY REALLY DON'T HAVE A SIMPLE ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP, REPLY TO: ARCLIGHT1217. GOOD LUCK!

I had the same problem- I tried for a week, and thought I would have to spend >$100 to fix it (no warranty). However, I played around with the "screen brightness" setting and that fixed it! I don't know how, but it's worth a try!

Hi

Sounds like your LCD is turned off as a power save mode to save on battery life. Pressing the "Disp" button as 'arclight1217' suggests should do the trick.

Well, my camera was still under warranty so I sent it back to Cannon. They fixed it and sent it back to me within a week. They reported that the optical device was broken, so they replaced it and did other maintenance to it and it's back to normal. I love this little camera, so it was great to get it fixed and back so quickly.

Canon Power Shot SD750 screen went black. Read solutions, not sure what TV mode is? Is it same as video mode?

Tv is "shutter priority" mode. The Canon SD cameras do not have that mode. Instead see Fix 5A of the below link. A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Cannon SD 750 - when i try to take a picture a black screen appe

Think that you accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, just press the DISP button one more time.

Screen is black

Eagle 23: Press the "Disp" button and your LCD screen will turn on right away.

nazmil_mj: Can you take pictures or are they totally black as well? If you can only take black pictures then your LCD screen is fine and your CCD is bad or your aperture is stuck. Either of these means you need your lens replaced.

Don't bother asking a store for help (though you can if you like) they will tell you it's not fixable or will just send it to Canon and charge you $175 for the repair.

We are an affordable digital camera repair business, we can replace your lens for about $75!

CANON POWER SHOT SD750 DOESNT TAKE PICTURES BLACK SCREEN

Mine started working again. The only thing I can attribute to it is that I zoomed the lens in and out several times. The next time I turned it on, it worked. Go figure. I'll update if things change.

You might have switched off the display by mistake, which is used as a power saving option and can be switched on by pressing the display button.
