Question about HP DeskJet F380 All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

Printer ink installation

I installed a new color ink cartridge and the printer shows a flashing red light with the letter E showing. I unplugged the printer overnight hoping it would reset but it has not. Can someone help me.

Mine occurred when the printer decided the Black cartridge was empty. Refilling the cartridge (have done is several times) failed to resolve. Refilled color cartridge. Same problem. An hour on the chat line with Mujibar resulted in his telling me the unit was no good and trying to sell me one for $264.49 (I paid $52 for this one about 18 months ago). The problem appears to me to be a sensor on the ink level indicator; however, HP will NOT publish or send specs. These 'lunchbox' printers are great when they work. The software is terrible. I have FOUR of these and they all have software problems and difficulty in restarting after replacing ink cartridges whether new or refilled.
Evaluation: Product manufactured to fail and eat up ink.
Too bad. This COULD be a fine product

I replaced the color ink cartridge. Now there is an "E" flashing alternately with a "5". The alarm light is on steadily, and the black ink and color ink lights are flashing. How do I...

E5 is a Cartridge cannot be recognized error.
Reinstalling the cartridge could clear the alarm.
If this does not work,
Removed both ink cartridges.
Turn off printer and unplug fron electrical outlet.
Wait at least 5 minutes.
This will let the printer reset itself.
Plug printer back in and turn on.
Printer will cycle and an E5 will appear.
Installed back ink cartridges.

How to replace the ink cartridge

1. Look at the indicator light on your Lexmark printer. You'll need to replace ink cartridges when the light flashes or turns red instead of the standard green.

2. Purchase Lexmark ink cartridges. You can buy the brand name or purchase a generic version that is compatible with your printer. You can shop for low cost ink cartridges from ABC Ink.

3. Remove the old cartridges from your printer. Grip the sides of the Lexmark ink cartridges and pull it out. Dispose of the ink cartridges in a recycle program like the one at Staples or save the cartridges for refill.

4. Install the new ink cartridges after removing the protective tabs. Avoid touching the IC chip when installing the new Lexmark ink cartridges. Replace the cover of the printer.

5. Allow the Lexmark printer to run a nozzle test. Print several pages with the new ink cartridges to make sure you installed the ink cartridges correctly. The indicator light should return to a solid green color.

Printer will not print. New cartridges have been installed. Window showing the number 5 and the letter E. The printer is Canon MP210

E, 5 is a code that definitely indicates something wrong with the ink cartridges. Either improperly installed, not seated properly or wrong cartridge (not supported). One black and one color cartridge must be installed for the printer to function.

Kodak 5300 shows "color ink cartridge needs replacing",even with new cartridge, and new printhead..Ink level display shows color cartridge empty, and its brand new..

Try this one
Take out the inks and printhead
Leave the cartridge door open, then unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while the access door is open
Close the cartridge door once the cord is unplugged
Reconnect the powercord, turn on the printer, then your printer will look for your printhead "Printhead missing or not installed correctly..."
Then put everything back. make sure it will snap in to place. Then print a calibration page, then scan it. This is just over writing the error message.

Try to remove and reinstall Ink Cartridges while printer is ON. Be sure the it is lock in place on the cartridge holder. If same issue, power off the printer and unplug and replug the power adapter. Check if the error has gone.
