Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
I tihnk it might be the graphics card, but when i start the computer, the monitor wont work. I just get a black scrren, and it stops booting. I got it from a friend and he said he thinks the video card is loose. Im not sure if thats it though,
This machine has the video card integrated into the main board, so the lose card idea is out the window. However you can check to see if the connection to the display is good by removing the button panel near the display. To remove the button panel:
1) Open the screen until you hit the stops.
2) Gently pull upwards on the right side of the panel above the keyboard.
3) Continue to pull from right to left.
Check the connector on the left side of the notebook. If that is secure then reinstall the panel and check for video output by connecting an external monitor to the connector on the back of the notebook. If you have signal your display is the likely culprit, if you don't the main board is likely the culprit. Either check online for replacements for either of these components, or send it in to Acer for maintenance.
