I have a whirlpool heavy duty super capacity plus. after a heavy load of rugs the tub is not centered in the machine. How can this be fixed?

The drive coupling connects the motor to the transmission and consists of two plastic drive forks with a rubber coupling between them. One of the drive forks is attached to the drive motor shaft and the other is attached to the transmission input shaft. As the motor shaft rotates, the rubber coupling between the drive forks absorbs the torque to prevent the forks from breaking. Normal use will create wear on the coupling and eventually the drive forks may slip and cause a vibrating noise. If the transmission seizes or if the spin basket cannot turn freely, then the coupling may fail and again you may experience a vibrating noise. Most models will require you to remove the cabinet to access the drive coupler. Disconnect power from the appliance before attempting any repairs.

If the washer is making a loud noise the drain pump might be going bad or might have something caught in it. Remove the drain pump from the washer and inspect it carefully. Look for anything that might be caught in it, a piece of wire, plastic, etc. If nothing is wrong with the pump, but it's still noisy it will have to be replaced.

Front load washers often use a self contained electric drain pump and the motor may be worn or damaged and require the complete pump to be replaced. Remove any foreign objects or replace the worn or damaged pump, thencarefully tighten the hose clamps and check for leaks before installing the cabinet or front panel.

All front-load washing machines have shock absorbers that are used to dampen the tub movement in the spin cycle. The shock absorbers or struts are attached to the base frame and to the outer tub and you will need to remove the front panel or the rear panel to access them. When shock absorbers weaken or become damaged, the machine will often make a loud banging sound during the spin cycle and if the symptom is not corrected, can lead to damage of other components. Inspect the shocks for signs of broken attachments, leaked fluids or a weakened dampening action and replace both shocks if worn. Remove power from the appliance before attempting this repair.

Some models of top-load washers use tub dampening straps to cushion the movement of the tub during the spin cycle. There are four straps attached to the top of the tub and to each corner of the cabinet

Also There are four suspension rods that suspend the tub and allow the tub to free float. If the suspension rods are noisy, there will be a squeaking noise during wash. You can fix this by putting bearing (lithium base) grease in the cup that each rod rests in. If it continues to squeal replace all four rods the cups come with the rods, replace them as well.

If your washer has a loud banging noise during spin the balance weight may be loose. This weight is to counter act the weight of the motor so you will find the weight directly behind the motor. Sometimes simply tightening the bolts will fix your issue but if the bolts are stripped out get some bolts slightly longer than the original bolt to allow you to put a locking nut on the bottom side of the mounting plate. If the weight is broken replace it.

Lastly Washer vibration can be caused by a broken counter balance spring. Ur washer may be equipped with one or more counter balance springs which help to absorb the natural movement of the spinning tub. If a counter balance spring fails the tub might lean in one direction more than another and it will shake and cause vibration.

I have a whirlpool front loader...not sure of the style number at the moment...but about a month ago the clean pump light came on...so my partner and dad drained the filter at the front down the bottom and...

did they remove the bottom panel and remove the middle part of the pump and clean out the pump?unplug it,with the bottom off reach up and at the bottom of the door lock assy. there's like a tear drop shape tab made of plastic that you pull down, you'll hear a click and the door can be opened.to clean the pump, with a shop vac vac out all the water in the tub, then go to the pump, turn the middle piece counter clockwise until water starts to leak out,vac it up as it leaks out until it stops and then turn the middle piece all the way and remove it,you can stick the vac in the pump and vac out anything that's in there and then stick your finger in and feel around to make sure nothing is stuck in with the impellar, put the pump back together, add some water and put it on drain spin,if the water drains out you're all done if not you have to install a new pump.part number 280187 and it's around 120 sollars

My whirlpool washer died in the middle of a wash. It has a bad electrical smell. The coupling between thw motor and trani is not broke, but the motor is very hot. New motor?

IS IT A FRONT LOAD OR TOP LOAD MACHINE??? ONLY THE TOP LOAD MACHINES HAVE A COUPLER. THERE IS NO TRANSMISSION ON FRONT LOAD ONES....

IF YOU HAVE A TOP LOAD AND YOUR MOTOR IS HOT AND WON'T START, REMOVE THE PUMP ON THE FRONT OF THE MOTOR AND TRY IT AGAIN. IF THE MOTOR STARTS, IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE YOUR PUMP IS STUCK OR DEFECT... IF THE PUMP IS OK, YOU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE MOTOR. MAKE SURE THE TRANSMISSION IS TURNING (ONE SIDE FOR WASHING AND THE OTHER SIDE FOR SPINNING)...

Whirlpool thin twin stacked, won't agitate or spin

whirlpool washers have a drive coupling in between the motor and the transmission to replace this remove the top and disconnect the lid switch set it aside remove the front panel then remove the 2 clips that hold the pump on then push it out of the way then remove the 2 screws that hold the motor clamps on and then remove the upper and lower motor clamps remove the motor then replace the three piece "motor coupling" one piece goes on the motor the other three pronged plastic piece goes on the transmission and the rubber isolator goes between them and now just put every thing back together

I have an average top load washer that is 11 years old. The tall agitator in the middle isn't agitating. Thank you.

Assuming that this is the basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain two piece agitator model.

There is a Sears repair parts site:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and a list of major sub-components will come up.

Since it isn't agitating (I assume not at all rather than just the top part of the agitator. If just the top part

isn't turning then the easiest solution is replacing the 4 "agitator dogs" ) the solution points to a

couple of places.

1. The motor coupler

#13 on diagram Coupling, motor and isolation Number:3364003Substitution:285753A $18.50 In stock
may be broken. This piece is a fail safe between the motor and transmission. and basically transmits power to the transmission.

If it spins and drains OK, and if you can hear the motor turning, the problem points to the transmission.

Inside the transmission are a number of gears, springs, and plastic cams and levers. Over time one of

them may have either broken or worn out.

There is a Whirlpool site with a parts list for their "commercial washer" which is essentially the same as

for your washer. On it is a list of all of the components and parts for the washer.

By paging down to and following the diagram of the transmission you should be able to determine

which actual part is broken.

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20W10114743.pdf

When our washer (12 years old) wouldn't spin, rather than spending $170 for a new transmission, we

installed a repair kit into the old one ($15) and the problem was solved.

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II drum does not spin.

Depending on your washing machine model, the drum and motor are connected by 2 plastice yellow circular pieces, with a black rubber washer in the middle with holes where the pegs or rods go into. The 2 plastic circular pieces have 3 pegs or rods if you will, that connect to the black rubber washer via 3 holes. Sometimes, one or both of the 2 plastic circular piece pegs get broken off or the rubber washer cracks and breaks apart, so that the motor will not turn the drum. If thats the case, you can purchase the 2 circular pieces and black washer piece as a set.

Kenmre upright washer

Hi dreb12345,
If you have a Kenmore topload washer chances are you do not have a belt on this machine. They are direct drive and they have a motor to transmission coupling. If you tip the machine back you sould see it between the motor and trans. It will be two plastic pieces and a black rubber middle. If this item is broken that is what you will need. To replace it you will need to remove the cabinet to access the pump and motor. the cabinet is held on by two clips that are located under the control panel. The control panel will flip up when the two phillip screws are removed from each side of it. On the newer models the screws may be on the back left and right of the control panel or covered by the front trim pieces. After removing the cabinet you will see the pump in the front bottom center held in place by two clamps, then again you will see two clamps holding the motor, usually the clamps on the motor are held inplace with a 1/4 inch screw. After removing the motor you can easily replace the coupling. Be sure to replace all pieces of the new coupling. If you use pieces from the old coupling they may be different sized and cause problems later for you. If you have more problems just call us and we will be happy to help you further. I hope the will fix ya and dont forget to rate me.
