Question about RCA M4204 MP3 Player
I have had the M4204 for about 2 months was working fine it has 893 songs on it and for some reason it just stopped working. It froze up and is now STUCK ON INITIALIZING I can't get it to charge the computer doesn't even recognize the player. I see that many people are having the same issue does anyone have the solution yet? RCA sold out and now Audiovox has taken over. The new customer service dept. SUCKS you can't get in touch with anyone (bankers hours) and when you do finally get a live person they don't know **** about the products. They gave me a link to go to and down load some different software when you click on it you find out the link no longer exists. I tried telling them that through a email. The response I got topped the cake " well why won't it let you?" Well, if I knew the fricken answer why would I call those idiots!! Any help would be appreciated!
Upgrading the firmware solved the problem, but it took some effort.
The firmware update is found on RCA's website here: http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/product.aspx?product=392.
You must first hook up the player. Download the updater to a file folder on your computer. Run the software....and I had to use one of the troubleshooting tips that is available in the firmware upgrade to even get my machine to recognize the mp3 player. That trick was to unhook the player. Push and hold down the play button as you reconnect the player into the computer...and remain holding the play button down until the player is recognized. All of these steps are in the firmware upgrade program. It's crazy to me that you have to start the program to upgrade the firmware before they give you any idea on how to make it work (especially if your mp3 player seem dead).
Anyway. I lost all my saved media, but the player is working again. Good Luck.

My older Opal wouldn't start. Mine was recognized when connected to my PC so I upgraded the firmware after backing up my stuff off of it. After upgrading the firmware, it still didn't want to start. the back of my Opal says that the Reset feature is to press the start button for 10 seconds. While pressing and holding that button, the Initialize word came up and then went away and showed nothing. I tried over and over and it wouldn't start. Then I thought about it and let go of the start button the instant I saw the Initialize word. That did it! It finished the initialization and works like new! Gotta burn your stuff on cd or dvd often with these types of gadgets though!

I have the exact same problem. It worked fine forever. I even upgraded the firmware before when it was working. The other day I recorded a song of the radio, played it back. Shut it off, and the next time i turned it in it's stuck on "Inititializing" When I plug it in to usb the button led's light up blue but nothing else. I know that holding down the play button trick works but i have almost 4gb of music on there that isn't backed up and I don't want to lose it all. Anyone find any different options?

I have a Opal M4204 and it's stuck on initializing and I have downloaded the firmware update and done what it told me to do, I held down the play button until the player was recongized. It's been running the initializing for 3 hours now, it should not take that long.. Am I doing something wrong?
