Jl w7 not loud enough

If your sub isn't loud enough you may want to look into a few things;

1. What type of amp you're using and its output rating
2. The gauge of your power, ground, and speaker wiring
3. The condition and type of enclosure you are using
4. Check to make sure the speaker cables don't touch, because this can cause it to ground itself out and produce little to no sound.
5. Check the RCA connections and make sure they are in order

New in dash reciever, have sub woofers, they turn on but are not working

There are a number of issues that could be going on here. Go down this check list.

1. Check to make sure your head unit is getting power
2. Make sure the volume is up and that you do not have the unit on mute

The following list is if you have an amp (I assume you do if you have subwoofers).

1. Make sure the RCA cables are plugs to the correct outlet RCA's on the unit.
2. Make sure the RCA cables are not crimped at any point on the way back to the amplifier
3. Make sure the power and ground are good on the amplifer and that the remote turn on is functioning (this will turn the amp on).
4. Make sure the RCA cables are plugged into the right place on the amplifier.
5. Check the gain levels on your amp. This is a dial next to the RCA input. You will need a small flat head screwdriver to adjust.
6. Make sure the subs are wired correctly. If they are wired to the wrong ohms load they may cause the amp to go into protection.

If this doesn't help, you may need to get more specific in your next post.

I want to hook up subs and a amp in a 2008 saturn vue how do i do it

If you are planning on using the factory stereo you will need a line level converter. You basically connect two of your speaker channels to the line level converter. That in turn will give you a line level out (RCA cables) That line level out can be fed to a two channel amp which would be where your subs would hook up to. If you do this however you will lose two channels of mid range and highs ( your rear speakers ). Downfall to this approach is that some line level converters are susceptible to alternator noise.

If you have an aftermarket deck this will be much more simple. You simply run your RCA outputs from your deck to your external amplifier. Aftermarket decks typically have front rear and subwoofer outputs. That means you can drive a four channel amp for your front and rear and a two channel amp for your subwoofer. This is the recommended way to go.
For hookups I just suggest buying an amp kit that is comparable in power rating to your amp. If you buy a 500watt amp make sure your wiring kit can handle at least 500 watts.

How can i make my jl audio 12w3-d6 into a 4 ohms

it depends if the amp is mono or stereo and if it is bridged. if it is bridged the amp cant handle the speaker the best way is to lower the level on the amp or connect it to only one channel. also you might want to check your ground cable use a thick one and make sure its making good contact with the chassis. this happened to me. luck

Complicated JL Audio Amp

1. set the amp LP filter frequency at about 80hz and mode/slope to 24db.
2. set the amp gain as recommended in the manual.
3. set the subsonic to on and to about 25hz
4. ste the bass eq to off!
5. set the input voltage to low and signal sensing to off
6. Fine tune by ear.

Power on green light is on but no sound when speakers are hooked up

Light is on so suggests power, earth and remote turn on cable all ok. Now you just need to test the RCA signal and the AMP output. I take it you have used low level RCA as the input from the head unit? (two cables usually red n white although can somtimes be other colours) best way is with substitute amp n speakers etc although can be done with osciliscope or headphones. Once it is established the RCA signal is fine then you can check the speakers from the amp. disconnect them at the amp and put each of the two wires briefly to a battery, any battery will do e.g. 9v PP9 or 1.5v AA etc you should hear a pop from each speaker as you do it. that proves the speakers and wiring to them.
If there was no signal from the RCA the cables may be bad - requires testing from head unit to amp
failing that the RCA output may be reduced or turned off via a menu in the head unit
Or the RCA output from the unit may be knackered.

Sorry its a bit long hope it helps

Car Sub JL 12w3 low sound

So I am assuming that you have just setup/wired this up recently? Have you had this working before?
You can have a look at the gain control on the amp & see if this have been set really low. This will help if the signal coming from your stereo is weak. The other thing I would suggest is to make sure that the amp can actually push this sub. I know what the specs say:

  • 1 channel audio amplifier
  • 1 x 350W RMS @ 1.0% THD
  • ThermalThrote full-on power assurance
  • 2 ohms stable (non-bridged mode only)
  • RCA type inputs
  • 0.3-6.0 VRMS input capability
  • Continuously variable High-Pass & Low Pass 50-250 Hz
  • Continuously variable Bass Boost settings (0 tp +12dB)
  • Frequency responce: 10-30,000 Hz
  • S/N >104 dBA at full power @ 0.1% THD
  • >80 dBA at 1W/1M
  • Remote gain control, mounting hardware & screws included
but I don't believe most of these. Many manufacturers embellish what their products can actually do! With the bigger more established brands such as JL Audio you will have no problems, their products have been tried & tested so much on the competition circuit.
