How to Open a Laptop Battery & Replace the Lithium Ion

Laptop batteries, like all rechargeable battery packs, lose their charging capacity over time. Because new Laptop batteries are expensive, replacing the individual cells inside the battery casing can save a lot of money. However, rebuilding a battery sometimes does not work as expected, so it’s important to be willing to purchase a new laptop battery if the procedure fails.

HP Pavilion DV1100 Battery 12 cells
1、Allow the laptop battery to run down completely. Turn off your laptop, then remove the battery. Write down the model number located on your battery to help identify the type of Li-ion replacement cells you need to purchase.
2、Split open a small section of the laptop battery pack (at the seam) with a screwdriver or craft knife. Continue to pry the plastic case loose moving around the outer edge until the entire top is free. This may take a bit of force.
3、Note the number of cells inside the case (usually four to eight). Write down the part number and voltage information printed on the cell casings. Draw a diagram showing the arrangement of the cells and how they are connected, or take a few photos to help with reassembly.
4、Purchase the correct number and type replacement batteries from online shop such as udtek.com, based on your battery model and cell specifications. Six Li-ion cells typically cost around $30 to $40.
5、Carefully remove each cell using a craft knife and wire cutters as necessary. Each battery pack is different, but the cells are usually wrapped in a plastic casing with metal contacts attached to one end. Lay the metal contacts, wires and casing material aside.
6、Use double-sided tape or a solder gun (only if necessary) to attach the metal contacts to the cells and circuit board. When finished, the old cells should be completely stripped (naked) and the new cells should look like the old ones as much as possible.
7、Place the new cells inside the case, referring to your diagram or photos if necessary. Glue the battery(Compaq DV6000 Battery) pack top back on. Charge the new battery for at least 24 hours before using it.
Tips & Warnings
Keep an eye on the new battery while it charges for the first time. If the contacts are not connected properly, the battery could overheat and cause damage to the laptop.

Looking for a part for the above jiffy Lite model. On the back of there's a part that is screwed on with 2 bolts to the frame (the horizontal bar just above the battery housing area). This part is silver...

repetto Try taking a plastic tie wrap that is long enough to wrap around the post on the battery case and the clasp this shoukld keep it in contact until you can find a part. You shoukdn't need to replace the battery pack just the clamp. If shoprider wants you to by a battery pack just to replace the clamp why? you might try looking for a guardian red small wheelchair it uses the same clamp to hold the battery pack and they no longer make that chair someone might have a junked one that you can get the clamp from just a thought Hope this helps

Drivers Needed

Viewmaster laptops were manufactured by Hallmark. They went down in business but their website is working. You may have some hard luck in finding the drivers but I may be able to help you.
First you need to know the make and model of the hardware components of your laptop. For example, if you have installed windows XP (or Vista), you can see the names of the video and audio card listed in the Device Manager.
Then, click here to visit the driver download page.
Click on the link for your hardware model and you will be redirected to the website of the manuafacturer; enter the model of your hardware and proceed towards download.

How to disassemble metz battery pack

Cleaning is unlikely to cure your problem.
To change the cells follow these instructions, taking care not to short circuit any of the cells.
You need to know how to use a soldering Iron.
You need to understand basic electrical principals.

Stand the battery on the part with the charge socket at the bottom, the plastic at the top is held in place by a series of plastic latches.
Look closely to see them.
Release these latches CAREFULLY one by one with awatchmakers screwdriver, until the cover can be removed.
This will enable you to see a single, roughly central crosshead screw.
Remove this screw.
Unsolder the contacts at the top.
Separate the top and bottom parts gently, whilst feeding the now unsoldered wires into the assembly until you can see the lower soldered contacts on the cell units.
Unsolder these two contacts, and separate the top and bottom parts completely.
Withdraw the six cell units together, and hol them together with an elastic band.examine closely and note the long metal strip which is required to pass over a seperator in the housing.
Note also the transparent rings around the positive contacts on the cells, recover an re use these.
Purchase either solder tagged NiCads and solder them yourself, or get a battery supplier to replicate the complete six cell unit. (30 bucks here in France).
DO NOT try to solder cells without solder tags. Battery replacement stores are equipped with micro spot welding equipment to connect these.
In either case it is MUCH easier to reassemble the battery pack using the upper housing to keep the cells in place whilst soldering or welding.
Rebuild the unit.
Done!

Cracked case

Hi there.
You can order spare parts from Acer themselves or alternatively look on Ebay for spare plastics.
It sounds like you need the lid face and bezel (plastic that surrounds the screen), as for disassembley i'm afraid its trial and error as you may have to take the laptop apart to replace the plastics.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Mac notebook will not come on

Usually when you spill liquids over an electronic device, it better be off the power. Once it dries you can most cases use it again.
With a laptop thats a different story, because it has the battery in it.

In your case i think:
The battery probably died because of the liquid, i had the same thing happening to my dads laptop. Try to plug the mac in and start it without the battery.

Because the mac came on at all, you can be sure that the mainboard is still working.
If it comes on with the powercord pluged in or a different battery, you should just consider buying a new battery.

Two years are a long time for computer parts. Im not sure, but the battery of the newer notebook might be incompatible to the old one.

So try to get a new battery, since this is the part that dies first when liquids get spilled.

I hope this works for you =)

Need new nicad for AV 1002-CP

Unfortunatly they don't make the 1002 AV anymore so replacing the batteries is pretty much your only choice. Though the batteries in the AV 1002 aren't made to be user replaceable you can if you don't mind a little soldering.
The 1002 uses two Sub C (SC) size 1.2V 1300 mAh NiCd batteries. You can get the batteries from places like www.batteryspace.com. I got two 5000mAh Tenergy batteries from Amazon for $7.40 each; . Be sure to get batteries with tabs (don't try to solder directly to the batteries).
When you have the new batteries in hand, pull the three screws from the back of the 1002. Using a screwdriver carefully split the case (there are four plastic clips holding the back to the front). Pry the old batteries from the small patch of adhesive in the case front. Pull the two white plastic caps off the ends of the battery pack. Using a soldering iron, de-solder the positive (red) and negative (white) leads from the old batteries. Note, you'll actually be de-soldering the thyristor (?) at the end of the end of the negative lead from the battery tab.
Take the two new batteries and solder the positive tab of one to the negative tab of the other such that they can be folded together to make a cylindrical pack that looks like the one you're replacing.
Solder the Red positive lead to the free positive tab and the thyristor to the free negative tab of your new battery pack.
Wrap the whole thing in electrical tape, making sure the thyristor is in good contact with one of the batteries and that there is no exposed wire that could cause a short.
Put the two plastic caps on your new battery pack, place the pack in the case and re-assemble the case.
Not sure how long the new batteries will take to charge but give it at least 24 hrs to make sure.
If you're not handy with solder, it might be worth spending a little time surfing some of the DIY battery pack forums (there's actually quite a few) and there's probably several good videos out there as well.
This project sounds much worse than it is and it beats tossing an excellent $60 ******** in the dust bin. Good luck!

White plastic between card slot and battery charges plz

Ok, I Joe McGee'd the issue -- take a small piece of tin foil -- make it fit the hole area. Insert it and poke it into each open "port" on both side -- pack it in with a pin --

Mine is working fine now -- not sure how long, but it works.
