I have the IO Magic 250 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive as well, and whenever i power it on, it makes a sound and then starts blinking, but my computer will not recognize it as well. Is there a solution to this problem? Thank you!

Mine does exactly the same thing! :( I have seen another thread on this same topic and one thing several people seemed to have in common is that they all turned it off for an extended period of time. I turned mine off, too. Did the two users who posted above also turn theirs off for an extended period of time? One post suggested it needs to "warm up" for something like 30 min. to overnight and another said it was the power cord. Any luck with these solutions, anyone?

My dirve blinks as well and I/O Magic had no response to my problem. They said to replace it. Easy for them to say but what happens to all my data. I will leave mine plugged in and maybe it will come back to life.

I had the same thing occur to my I/O Magic 250 GB USB drive a couple of days ago. I did an online chat with I/O Magic tech support and the guy said you can RMA (return) it if it's in warrantee, but otherwise too bad. Mine is out of warrantee. Since the enclosure contains an ordinary hard drive inside, just carefully peel off the little metal plate at the back of the unit, undo the two screws and slide out the drive. The are two plugs and four screws to free the drive. To get your data back once you've got the drive out, you've got three choices: buy a new enclosure ($20+), buy a toaster ($50) (it's like an enclusre, but you just pop a drive into the top, like bread into a toaster), or open up your computer and connect the drive directly as any other. Oh and don't buy another I/O Magic product again.

I know it sounds a little nuts but try it with the drive upside down or on either side or on end supported by some books, you can also try cooling it off in a fridge for a while. when a drive starts to go and starts making clicks and vibe noises you have very little time to get everything off. before you try anything make sure you have space to save the files if you do get in.
Also look into Puppy Linux it runs in ram without running the hard drive,
Puppy may be able to read your drive.

I'll check in with you later, off to work.

hi.
maybe problem is caused by your Power supply.
so i recommend you to do these:
1- remove the main hard drive and only connect "250GB lacie porsche hard drive".
and see is it recognized or not.
2- go to the bios (with pressing "delete key" at start of turning on) and navigate to power center.
then enable power saving mode.

Im turining my drive on while its connected to my mac and its making a clicking noise and not ringing up on the computer/the computer doesnt show that its connected

When a hard drive makes a clicking sound, (its known as the click of death), The hard disk is faulty and it is unlikely it will work again.
If you need to recover data from this hard disk there are companies that can help you, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

Open the external hard drive cover, remove the hard disk inside, and fix it back. Try again and let's see what happens.

If it still does not work, insert the external drive into the computer, feel the hard drive if it spins/vibrate from inside or if it makes a cracking noise.

If it spins/vibrate, it means the hard disk is still working. In that case, you have to get another external drive case/cover.

But if it makes cracking noise, then it means the hard drive is damaged and you need to get another one.

Take care
