Question about Panasonic PT-50LC14 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Panasonic PT-50LC14 has evenly spaced vertical blue lines aproximately 1 cm apart

My Panasonic PT-50LC14 has developed evenly spaced (parallel) vertical blue lines aproximately 1 cm apart on all inputs. The TV has worked beautifully for nearly two years ... this problem came on rather suddenly over the course of a week or two the lines got worst and worse.

This model has a LSXA0572-HB Light Engine; replacements are available for $1500 but that is more than I paid for the TV. All of the TV repair folks I've talked to so far would just swap out the light engine and charge me the $1500.

I expect this problem is due to a $1.00 component going out of spec ... how can I find someone who can figure this out at the circuit board level? I am not an Electrical Engineer but I can handle a soldering iron :-)

It's not the light engine it'sd the bulb, replace that first, then clean it all out then go from there........

Should I replace my lamp for my Panasonic 1080i htd t.v. pt-50LC14

Replacing a lamp won't work. There is not even one lamp in your TV. I'm afraid the lightening has done more damage than can be repaired. Even when some tech manages to repair te error, the TV can have the next error in days or weeks.

My panasonic pt-50lc14 turns off the power light flashes red and temperature light flashes.

Examine the lamp first and be aware the model 50lc13 and 50lc14 which are almost identical had all sorts of problems----the lc13 was part of a massive recall/exchange that cost Panasonic tens of millions of dollars.

could be lamp or even the ballast which was the real issue involved in the recall.

Vertical lines across screen on my panasonic tv PT-61LCX65

Try setting a portable fan aimed toward the cooling vents on the back of the set. If this eliminates or reduces the occurance of the lines, this means a circuit that controls the off/on of individual pixels has developed a thermal problem. This circuit is ordinarily loacted on the main circuit board and is likely to degrade further. You might inquire at the Panasonic service center if they have an exchange program in place and they will probably be able to confirm my suspicions.

Vertical lines

IF the area of the OSD (on screen display) displays the same vertical blue lines as the rest of the screen, then it is most likely the optical block assembly at fault. It's part number is A1606006A and should cost close to $2,000. I'm assuming the set is out of warranty. I know many people are hooked on Sonys, but as a technican that works on them, I wouldn't want one in my home.

Convergence Problem

The convergence IC's have been known to cause similar problems and both would be replaced at the same time. Not an easy job for a DIYer. I would get a repair shop to fix it.
