Picture looks as if someone was pushing the center of a mirror, color skews too
Sometimes the picture is fine, then it messes up. You can still see the screen but it looks like a mirror does if you push the center of it and everything bends inward. The colors go out of wack at the same time, then 15-20 seconds later it goes back to being just fine.

inside, there is a mirror glued to the back of your tv, the lapmps shine onto this, then it's reflected onto the front screen, it gets dusty, mine did, and I took the front off the tv and cleaned that mirror, VERY carefully. sometimes the mirrors come loose, hang ascue, you might wanna look into that first.
it shouldn't do that with age but sometimes they will shift. does everything else work fine? is the picture fine otherwise? if there are other issues you may want to look for a fluid leak, or if the colors are misaligned parts may need to be replaced..
otherwise.. its a simple adjustment of horizontal static in the convergence mode.. if you move the green the red and blue should follow. check the positioning of hd as well.. make sure its just the sd that is off center.
once you enter service mode, you can mess up your tv, if the wrong button is pressed, are you sure you want to get in there? let me know and I can proceed with instructions
You have one of two problems based on your description.
1.) Go to a channel that is in black and white and turn the color on the set all the way off.
Examine the screen and picture from several feet back----if the picture is mostly red and looks somewhat yellow in the main part of the screen you have a GLYCOL problem.
These sets have on each picture tube a sealed unit full of Glycol to cool the face of each tube (set has a red, green, blue picture tube)
If you find the yellow/orange look with the color off you most likely have bad Glycol in the blue picture tube---it never happens to the red--bacteria gets into the glycol and eventually there is no picture coming from (in most cases) the blue tube.
Loss of blue will leave you with Red and Green--mix those two and you usually get a orange/red affect.
There is a way to also confirm this with your eyes--it involves getting the back cover off of the set and holding a small mirror (with the set turned on--you have to be careful not to touch anything)
If you look in each lens you should see a fine picture--one red, one green and one blue--if as I suspect the blue tube is contaminated it will not have a picture and will look like a blue floodlight.
IF THIS IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM--GO into the customer menu and select convergence--what you are looking for is will red and blue adjust or not--are they skewed and will not move.
If this is the case you have a convergence problem--I can tell you what is involved to fix in either case.

If its an rear projection set with crts(not one of the newer ones that uses a lamp) You have a CONVERGENCE PROBLEM; someone will need to replace both convergence output IC's and any parts around them that are damaged and then adjust the set---I repair a lot of these---usually the repair can be done in your home and takes about an hour or so.
The convergence output IC's have failed and need to be replaced. Sometimes when they go biasing resistors burn open also. These are large amplifiers mounted to heat sinks and have as many as 18 pins soldered into the circuit board. Better be handy at desoldering even if it's only the IC's that are bad.
Im no pro, but sounds like your mirror is misplaced or your unit is tweeked inside. I had my tv open with convergence fixed and now I am trying to match up the colors and focus to make the picture normal. Anyone have suggestions I would appreciate it also. Good luck!
Hi...what you are seeing is the DMD board (digital Mirror display board) going bad. And if you leave it turned on like that it will damage the DMD mirror and freeze that picture into the mirror. It will look as if someone etched it into the mirror. DMD boards can be repaired and some cannot be repaired. The DMD board can be replaced. The DMD mirror can also be replaced too.
