My apple iPod shuffle appears in Windows but not in iTunes

Here's how I fixed it:

I downloaded iTunes & Quicktime.

I then uninstalled all the Apple applications (iTunes, Quicktime, MobileMe, Bonjiour, Updates, etc.).

I had to delete the files in the iTunes folder (iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, and iTunes Music Library.xml). I don't know if I needed to delete all of them, but I know that the the iTunes Library.itl file is definitely a problem. When I upgraded to 8.2, it updated this file and essentially forced me to delete it and rebuild my music library. This is where my files were located:

C:\Users\USERNAME\Music\iTunes

Also, remember to reboot your PC after all of the uninstalls. I also reset my iPod Touch (not a restore, as the above helped me avoid this, so I did not loose the data on the iPod Touch... though I did have to rebuild the music library.

It was a pain, but certainly worth it to hook up my iPod Touch and have instant connectivity. I don't think I forgot anything, but these are the key things.

One last bit of advice... back up all of your data before you begin, so you can restore the data and music and data.

I have a damaged itunes library that i've uninstalled and reinstalled twice. both times it reinstalled with the same problem. when i purchase a new ipod, how do i install a clean, empty itunes library? can...

Hi, since you have un-installed and re-installed the itunes library twice and you are still having the same problem, there seems to be a problem with the computer you are using. I will advise you to use a new computer especially now that you have just purchased a new ipod. Download and install the itunes on a new computer and you can now use the new ipod on it....

Setting up new Ipod Touch 8gb

Reinstall iTunes. That's the easiest way to fix this problem. But don't uninstall it. Just download the latest version from Apple run it and restart your computer.

Lost itunes library

Don't plug your ipod into the computer cause the system is designed to stream data from computer to ipod.  Google a program called expod or senuti (itunes backwards.  Clever hunh?) and download and install the program.  These two free apps will allow you to reverse stream the data from your ipod back to the computer.
Cheers.

Don't know how to download from computer library to ipod

Connect your iPod to your computer with the USB cable. Start up iTunes (if you don't have it you can download it for free from http://www.itunes.com.

Once you start up iTunes click on File -- Add to Library

Then select the music you want in your iTunes Library. Once it's loaded you'll see your iPod listed in the left pane and you will be able to drag and drop any song you want onto the iPod.

Or you can create a playlist in your iTunes library and drag the entire playlist to the iPod.

Click on your iPod in the left pane and you will see a page that will allow you to manually update music or let iTunes sync automatically. If you choose the automatic function and you have more music than will fit on your iPod then iTunes will pick random songs to fill it.

Ipod won't sync to Itunes

When you wiped the old computer and then reconnected to the new computer, it reformatted the player, causing data corruption. I would try all five of these suggestions, but first try uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple/iTunes software: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with your iPod nano. If one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to specific problems. â Reset your iPod nano. See “General Suggestions,” below. â Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes. â Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates installed. â Reinstall iPod and iTunes software from the latest versions on the web. â Restore your iPod nano. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page 50.

Try to connect your ipod and update it on internet. If it doesn't work properly, click start menu and point to search and then search iTunes.xml files on search files or folders.

Ipod nano 4gb

If you install the itunes version 7.5 that you downloaded, you wont lose your music library. It is a separate file from the programs installation files. You don't need to uninstall the previous version, the new one will install on top of it.
