I also have a problem with yahoo messenger. I cannot open camera source & settings. My family are unable to view my camera although we can see theres. Logitec have checked everything out for me & there is no problem with the camera. I am now using version 9 which I installed today after uninstalling previous version but the problem still remains.I have contacted Yahoo but they as yet have not responded. This all means that I cannot set my camera which is causing the problem. Must be a fault with yahoo

Are you trying to use the webcam with Yahoo Messenger while at the same time using the cam on your MSN messenger?

Yes, just make sure its only Yahoo since you can't use your webcam on multiple applications at the same time. Only 1 at a time.

Try this and tell me what will happen..
1. Open your main Yahoo Messenger window
2. Click on Messenger on the Menu bar and click Preferences
3. Go to Webcam option and click Camera Source
4. Check if your webcam is listed - if it is, make sure its the one selected

Then try to check if you can start your webcam on YM. Goodluck!

What version of Yahoo Messenger are you using? You can try to uninstall and reinstall your webcam, eventhough it works with MSN. Just try that too.

What is your OS? Windows Vista or XP?

    I got this from here

Uninstall the Microsoft LifeCam and disconnect your camera.
    Go to this site:

Download the software for the QuickCam Ultra Vision 5. Save to your hard disk and then run the program.
Reinstall the LifeCam software and then plug in the camera. LifeCam will use the Logitech Drivers and your camera should work fine.

    Hey! Thanks for the update.

    Please try this

    - Open LifeCam and change resolution to 640x480 or less
    - Close LifeCam
    - Verify Webcam Preferences such that Camera Source is VX-6000
    - Open Webcam from Yahoo Messenger
    - Note that wecam will either open in LifeCam OR Yahoo, not both at a time!

I'm not sure if the software from Microsoft is the same with the CD but why don't you try to use it instead.

Try this again and hopefully something different will happen:

    * Uninstall the webcam again and also Yahoo Messenger

    * Reinstall the webcam using the software from the link above and once camera is installed properly, try installing YM again

Note: If there's a webcam software running on your System Tray, make sure to close it first before attempting to open it on YM.

My Microsoft VX-5000 Lifecam Mic Won't Work In Yahoo & MSN?

Normal 0 See section C. Windows Live Messenger in the info below to setup the Audio & Video.
Also send this to your family and friends so they have their computer setup properly.
Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger ( ) set it up as follows:
  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.
  1. Windows Live Messenger:
  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: Your audio and video should work. Enjoy.
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

When I try to talk to some one with the webcam on MSN Messenger I can see them but they can't see me. My webcam is just picking me up instead and not broadcasting to them.

try a different IM like yahoo messenger ..if it works...and it broadcasting means that its something wrong with your msn messenger and need to reinstall it

My webcam works on msn messenger but not yahoo messenger. It is a HP webcam. Is there a compatibility issue? Should I change my webcam?

No there is no compatibility issue. But you cannot use cams simultaneously on 2 messenger. Make sure that when you using it in Yahoo messenger than msn is totally shut off. Try this it should help you.

If my advice helps you, than please feel free to rate me.

Will not work with yahoo

My Lifecam vx- 1000 wasn't working on Yahoo messenger initially. After hours of researching i came across the solution that worked for me.

In "properties" limit the USB bandwidth used - by unchecking "Auto" in configuration and decreasing the speed manually (bring it down from 6mbps to 3).

This is what worked for me, hope this helps!
