Hi Frank. Just wanted to ask if you could help me with my wireless router security configuration as well. I've set up the router's wireless connection and I'm able to connect but when I set up the security settings (wep kep) for a shared network, and I try to connect again to the wireless network, it says the security settings on my laptop may be stopping my wireless from connecting to the router.
Do you have any idea what the problem might be?
thanks!
I have intalled hundreds of linksys routers, so when I heard such a problem described above, I though it would be just a system error due to the OS messed up. but with the new router WRT160N, I actually had that problem. they raised security level (especially for WEP), but the router doesn't have options for it in configuration. so, we will have to set our computers manually to make work with it.
Do manual setup by typing SSID, Security mode, Key.... and make sure to disable 802.11x security.
can you connect without the security???
if so. configure the router with minimum security. if that is good than go up.
you need to clean out the setting on the laptop first.
delete all of the network that the laptop can find. do a fresh search. click on the router you want ot connect. if you setup the WEP. it will ask for a pass key type in the key exactly as you have on the router (case senstive).

I have a NEC model 1200 wireless router module. Any place that I can get info/manual or support on how to set it up with security for a church wireless network. We have a wired network. We have no dc power supply. I believe that the building that we found the equipment had it supplied with power via Ethernet cable.
