Sound suddenly stopped working. Sound devices says there is no sound card installed

Take the card out of the computer and reinstall it, perhaps to another pci slot. Reboot the computer and when it finds the hardware let windows load the drivers for it. If you are connected to the internet during this time, windows will ask to search the web for the best driver...let it.

I've had to reboot my presario c300ea as i picked up a virus. After installin win 2000 on it its saying i have no sound card, no graphic card and no card for internet so i cant install my intenet. If i...

It sounds like what you've done was reformat your system, rather than reboot. Is that right?
What you are actually missing is not the cards but the drivers to make them operable. I'm not real familiar with 2000, but here's an excellent tutorial for updating drivers that will help guide you through the process. Here's a link to the HP page that has all the original drivers for your windows 2000 system, and here's another link to the xp drivers. You should probably choose one OS or the other, rather than trying to install 2 of them. Your system will run better for it...You can download them from antother internet connected computer and burn the download to a cd if you have'nt internet access from your system at the moment.
Here are a couple of links that may be helpful from your hp support sites, here , here, here, and here.
You might save yourself a lot of time updating windows if you consult articles here nad here.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

I set up a new system for my PC but the sound does not work. I lost the CD of the sound definition. The card is fox conn.ADI 1888 6-Channel AC97.The mother board is ASUS P5PE.The OPerating system is XP

Hi Ok so you need to search on the internet (google will do) for "AC97 drivers for XP" You will find a few links where you can download your drivers. So download, install, then reboot your computer. It should work fine after that. Let me know if this isnt working for you. Good luck!

First we need to know what kind of errors you are having this will help determine what steps to take first but here are a few things you could try in the mean time.

Try a different web browser, if you still experience the same issue try checking router and firewall settings run virus and spy ware scans. please post if you do or do not find success.

I formated my pc and now i dont have sound!!!

If you have the discs that came with the sound card/computer, run the installation program from that.

If not and you have internet access from that computer and it's a Windows OS, try this:
go to "System" under in "Control Panel."
Click the "Hardware" tab.
Click the "Device Manager" button.
Find the "Audio Devices" (or "sound"...can't remember...it has the megaphone picture next to it)
Expand the tree if it's not already expanded(click the plus sign next to it)
Right click the Icon under the "Audio Devices" with a yellow question mark and select properties. (there might be a selection to "install driver." if so, select that.
When it asks if you want it to search for drivers on the internet, select "yes, this time only"
It should find what you need.

If not you'll need to find out what company has the made your sound card and go to their website or google "(company's name) audio drivers."

If you don't have internet access on that computer, you can find a computer with internet access, find the driver (by going to the company website or googling), and save it to USB memory stick, or CD and copy it to your computer.

Dynex soundcard is installed however my pc still has no sound!

Hi Sammantha78,

I had a similar problem with my computer and I went and bought new sound card and installed it and I still had no sound. I then went and bought a new set of speakers and now i got sound. I suggest you test another set of speakers on your computer to see if it’s not your Altec Lansing speakers that is not working.

Sincerely,

Agent Xiong
