Dell desktop 520 doesnt recognize hard drive

Sounds like a bad hard drive or a BIOS problem. If you have access to a working PC, try connecting the hard drive (providing the connections match) and see if it's recognized. Try borrowing another hard drive to see if your machine recognizes that one. Your bios is a good place to begin.

open the CPU and check whether it properly connected (both the wires sata cable and power cable)
then check in BIOS. is it detected if it is then change the boot device priority..
if its not detected then try to swap the wires with optical drive..
still not then change the HDD

Dell optiplex will not recognize hard drive

Is it SATA or IDE? Have you tried another cable? If it's IDE, have you checked the jumper settings (usually Cable Select is easiest)?

Dell Optiplex GX1 not recognizing all hard drives.

Hello,
If you connect the drives using one single ribbon cable with two connectors on it then you need to set the drives to Master/Slave using the jumpers on the drives. Master being your OS drive.
If you are running a very old Operating System, make sure it can support a 20GB drive.

My hard drive just crashed on my Sony Vaio VGC-LS30e so I replaced the hard drive with a WD SATA HD and the computer is not recognizing it, neither is BIOS. Any suggestions? I went to put the old HD in as...

A bit of research revealed that the system came with a 250GB SATA drive, and the BIOS should have recognized either drive. Check the cable from the Hard Drive to the Mother Board if possible, including the Power connectors.

Dell DV051 - message no boot device

Go into your BIOS by pressing F2 and see if the hard drive is being recognized in there. If it is then reset defaults in the BIOS and reboot and see if the computer will boot back into windows. If it doesn't then you'll need the discs to restore the computer back to factory defaults. If the hard drive is not being recognized in the BIOS then make sure the hard drive is hooked up properly. IF it is and its still not being recognized in the BIOS then the hard drive is bad.

At that point then you'll need to replace the hard drive and use your discs to restore the computer back to factory defaults.

Problem It reads press f1 retry boot, press f2 set up? How to do it. I do not have a recovery disc. thanks mits

Sounds like its not seeing your hard drive or you have corrupt system files and windows isn't booting.

Press F2 to go into the setup and make sure the hard drive is being recognized. If it is recognized then that means windows is corrupted and you'll need to reinstall your laptop back to factory defaults. If the hard drive is not being recognized in there then you'll need to reseat the hard drive back into the slot.

Then turn the laptop on and press f2 to go back into the setup. If the hard drive is now being recognized then see it if boots into windows. If it doesn't then you'll need to restore your laptop back to factory defaults.

If the BIOS still doesn't show the hard drive then your hard drive is bad and would need to be replaced.

Lacie Hard drive not recognized

If your computer recognized the hard drive before you have installed your last operating sistem(s) that can be the problem. Your operating sistem or BIOS is not seeing your hard drive any more. Installing a new operating sistem is going to solve your problem but try another one, not the operating sistem you used until now.

Motherboard fails to see Hard Drive...please help

Sounds like you lost an ide channel, swap the ide cables around, primary to secondary and secondary to primary. and see if it recognizes the hard drives and not the cdrom.

I lost an IDE channel and had to install a sata hard drive or run the hard drive and cdrom on the same ribbon. If you run HD and CDROM on same ribbon set both to CS (cable select)
