On the motherboard you can clear the bios. Find the pins that are listed as "CMOS", it should be 3 pins and 2 are jumpered together, just take off the jumper and move it to the other side. Example: If pins 1 and 2 are jumpered, move the jumper to pins 2 and 3. Then after about 30 seconds, put the jumper back the way it was. and this should clear your bios.

If you failed in the middle of a Bios upgrade, the motherboard is badly damaged. The best thing to do is replacing the motherboard.

    When you fail a Bios update operation, what happens is that the data in the cmos chip gets damaged, and the bios cannot start the computer anymore.

    If the computer can still start and read the disk drives, you can try to fix it by restarting the bios flashing operation.

    If the computer does not start, then the only fix to this problem is by removing the CMOS chipset (using apposite tools, the two screwdrivers method can damage the chip), then mounting the bios chip on an eeprom programmer, and reflashing the chip with the bios image.

    Today this kind of job is not done very often, not even at a repair shop, as due to the low cost of motherboards, when this happens, it is usually better to replace the motherboard.

Gateway 504gr bios update failed

You maybe using the wrong version, it's already updated, or simply can not be upgraded.
Unless there is a TRUE need to flash, and usually there is not, I would stay away from. So many people try and fail, only to wipe the CMOS, leaving the system useless. Here is some sound advice on the subject.

Obviously it's not a battery problem. When you power on Acer, there's some running noise or not ? If there's such noise & just LCD has no sign of life, and you can't even access to Bios, it's just LCD cable connection problem. Often, LCD cable is disconnected from motherboard. It can ba happened very easily on shaking your laptop. It's possible that your hard disk is sick, then your Bios can't ditect its presence;

Flashing the Bios is a LAST DITCH effort to resolve Hardware issues. You should NEVER flash the bios unless you are absolutely certain it's the correct bios for your computer, also NEVER flash bios from within windows..

There may however be a solution for you, Acer laptop computers with the Pheonix BIOS sometimes has a " flashback" feature, allowing you to revert to your original Bios..

You will need to contact Acer to get a Crisis Bios recovery disk from them. Or ask for further information on how exactly to recover from a bad bios flash.

Acer Aspire 1800 not booting!

Did you make a backup of your original BIOS before flashing? If not you'll need to download the BIOS and reflash again. If you did then put your original BIOS back on the chip. This is definitely a BIOS problem. Worst case is you may have to purchase the BIOS from Acer or I've seen some 3rd party BIOS providers. I did not find the BIOS for the model you specified at the Acer site but I did find it at an English site: http://bios-repair.co.uk/ref/macercr.htm. It's L12 about $15.00? Good Luck
