Check the thermal sensor fuse part# 1-910-023-93 or possibly one of the four fans.
If the unit goes into Fan/Thermal Protect shutdown it can be difficult to determine the cause since the unit turns off too quickly to troubleshoot.
Solution: Ground the data line by inserting a jumper between pins 3 and 6 of CN44 on the H4 board. This overrides the protection circuits for troubleshooting. Do this right after turning the unit on and as soon as the lamp is seen lighting. Check pins 2, 5, 8, and 11 of CN6000 on the G2 board for less than 1VDC. Any voltage higher than that indicates a faulty fan. If all voltages are within specs, the H4 board must be replaced. If a fan is found defective, the optical block will need to be replaced if it is located inside the assembly.
H4 Board Part Number: A1054674A
Replace the following part based on which pin of CN6000 is out of specs:
Pin 2: Fan 1 (part of optical block)
Pin 5: Fan 2 178723211
Pin 8: Fan 3 178706511
Pin 11: Fan 4 178708111
Optical block Part Number:
A1084662A

thanks.

Take a look at this web page:

http://www.iwaynet.net/~nesda/SonyBlink.html

It is a good tool for getting some idea of Sony sets.

You say your light stays on and is blinking, then look at the various comments for that number of blinks on that above mentioned site.

The blinks serve as a diagnostic code that helps identify the problem correctly.. Please post the number of times it blinks between each pause.. Sounds more like a power supply board issue though..

Yes it can be a faulty board.. The best way to check is to grab a copy of the service manual and check the voltages accross the circuits and compare them with those in the Service manual..

Have your tv checked by a tech your problem is in the power supply or related circuit.check your regulator, along with some caps the microchip.some times with these tvs you will have to replace the main board.

If the flashing seems irregular, it may be showing a trouble code.
Considering the number of folks having problems with their newer flat-panel sets of all different brands, if you can find a TV repair shop in your area any more, you might want to have this one repaired. They were quite reliable as you probably know if this is the first failure you've had.
The problem is probably pretty straight-forward and in the power supply section of the set, an area that isn't prohibitively costly to repair and uses parts still available and likely even in stock in a decent shop.
If you are in the US, I would recommend further that you go shopping for an honest repair shop in the member directory of your local Better Business Bureau.

You should contact an authorised Sony repairer as they have a fix which took abot half an hour to solder in a replacement part which had been damaged by over-heating. Ours was fixed under extended warranty.

You need to get the service manual and follow thoroughly the troubleshooting diagrams to fix the problem.

Common problems can affect vertical deflection and convergence circuits, but the boards must be tested to find out what the problem is.

Power light keeps blinking Red and TV will not turn on

Is the light blinking constantly or is there a long pause then more blinking. If constant check the lamp door switch . Usually it is broken or jammed. If you jumper it and the set comes on that it. 4 blinks is bad fan.

Tv wont come on and a red light is blinking. I have a Sony Wide screen projection TV model kp-46wt520

Can you unplug the TV for about 15 seconds, and then plug back in and watch the stand-by light. Tell me how many time the stand-by light blinks in regular intervals. If it doesn't blink at all, you need to change a fuse on the g-board. Once this is done run back through the stand-by blink light process, and more troubleshooting can be done if problem isn't already solved. If the stand-by light just keeps blinking with a count over ten just tell me, and I'll look for other possibilities.

Picture & sound go on & off every sec, red light blinks 5 times

helloFive blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
