SOURCE: Flame Shooting out the front
You clearly have a gas leak. Inspect the suspect area for loose connections like the gas delivery pipe to the burner assembly. Try to reconnect them. If there is a hole in it you can use some muffler repair adhesive but I would just get a new part. Often the company will send you free parts as a good gesture to assure encourage repeat business. Check out the links below. The second one offers free shipping.

SOURCE: flames only come out very low on both sides
disconnect tank, hook tank back up, then open valve slowly. When opened to fast it thinks valve is leaking and shuts down.

SOURCE: yellow flame on the rear of my burner
Yellow is a "reducing" flame meaning low oxygen, whereas blue is an oxidizing flame. There is not enough air mixing with the gas. Clean out the pipes and free the air intake holes on the first stage of the burner assembly.
SOURCE: Lots of yellow - then very low heat
Are the flames still yellow? If so the burner just needs to be adjusted which is very easy? Look at the ends of the tubes that come out of the burner and end right at the back of the gas controls. You should see a small piece of metal that will slide or spin to close a hole. You want to close or open it a little at a time while the grill is burning. Adjust this until you only see blue flame or blue flames with a little bit of a yellow tip.
