I have a Maytag refrigerator that needed a compressor replacement recently (after less than 4 years of use). So we had an accredited repairman do that. Since then, the refrigerator makes a burbling noise (the only way I can describe it) while the compressor is on. The noise comes from the top of the refrigerator, and not near the compressor itself. I'm thinking that there is some air in the coolant system - it's that kind of sound. Is that possible? The repairman says the sound is "normal" even though it certainly wasn't there before his repair job, and I want to call him on it to fix it right.

Your condenser coil is frozen up with condensate...need to fix the defrost system, most likely it is the control sub module.

Does the sound occur when the compressor is starting or shutting down? and only lasts for a couple of seconds? I had one do the exact same thing. Sometimes it would also wake me up at night. If so, I'm afraid he is right. On the bright side, it worked fine for years. I gave it to a girlfriend when I purchased a bigger one and it is still working today. The only thing you can do is change the compressor, which is probably not $$ practical.

This is a compressor problem, and chances are there for this to worsen if not attended promptly.
