Printer will not print even though everything is working

Everything switched on, prints test colour checks but not documents.
Only mains light on, no error messages

-   Granddaughter given this printer and the previous owner removed the cartridges, Have tried the cleaning routines but the black output is zero and the colour is almost non existant, this is with new carts installed. Could something internal be blocked and how can this be resolved?
