    this is pretty obvious based on your question.. so forgive me if asking you to confim something obvius: are you positive you're using the right cartridges?.. post the details of the cartridges you're using and we'll help you confirming if that's the case.

It is really in need that if you replace cartridges of printer is the same of what is originally installed because the terminals of printer might not in contacts with the cartridge. but if the terminals are in fit and are in the same patterns then try to update drivers to lexmark website if have some available drivers update for enhancement. or you really have to replace it with the same as originally installed.

After installing new cartridges my printer went berserk, going right to left aprox. Ten times before I stopped it. The damage was the lock tab on the black cartridge case. It printed fine for several days...

That's a shame, looks like you need a new printer now. Some cheaper ones are good but time out after three or so cartridges.
Lexmark is Samsung, not bad.
It's a mine field out there. Go for a laser if you use it a lot.

Let the ink settle in the cartridge for awhile. Make sure no ink is on the outside of the cartridge which adversely effects the signal to the printer.

The solution center shows a question mark on both ink cartrages, and says no comutaion with the printer.

Take the cartridges off and check the connections. Make sure that there is no dust or debris on the contacts. Also take some Alcohol on a swab and clean both areas with it. I would recommend a clean swab for each contact so you do not cross contaminate the leads. When you put the cartridges back in make sure that they seat all the way. I know that there are some cases where the cartrages look like they are seated properly but not.

I put in a new black cartridge and it keep saying that the ink is low.

Check to make sure you're not buying trial cartridges. Often times when the manufacturer says to buy number XX it's another trial that's only half filled, I found this out about my Lexmark printer when I went to a local printer shop.

Lexmark x3430 need ink cartriage

This is the only information I could find. Didn't your printer come with a black and color ink cartridge? If it did, all you need to do is take the ink cartridge out and write down the numbers written on the cartridge. The only ink cartridge I could positively confirm was the #24 color ink cartridge. The Lexmark website does not list any black ink cartridges for this model. This information was obtained from Officemax.com.
Lexmark - 24 Ink Cartridge - Color
Compatible with Lexmark Z1400 series, X3500 series and X4500 series printers;
Lexmark - 23 Ink Cartridge - Black

Hi, i have a lexmark x2690 and am trying to install but get an error message and it won't print at all ... not even at test page... it flashes ec1 and the cartridge light flashes but they are both...

Did you take the tape off of the print cartridge before you put them in? Did you install the software first then when prompted turn the printer on then plug in the printer (usb) cord to the computer? Did you go into the print control panel and activate the print cartridges that you put in there? Sometimes you have to tell the printer that you installed new print cartridges.

Here is a link for the Lexmark Z845 drivers. There are several links for various supported operating systems. Click the one you are running, then download and install the driver.
