When you said your cursor freeze, does the computer still respond or the whole computer froze. If the computer froze, then it could be anything from, memory, hard drive, cpu, or mainboard. Does the keyboard works, if just the cursor freeze, try using a usb mouse.

Windows 7 is freezing upon boot (post is ok) after antivirus installation/windows updates. What could be the cause? I figure a hardware conflict, or maybe a boot sector virus. Any thoughts please?

Hello,Try booting in safe mode or try "last known good configuration". To do this press F8 before windows starts its boot process. You will have a menu with options and you then choose. Before you install and windows updates, Windows creates a restore point, therefore you can roll back the updates by booting "last known good config". From there you can see what went wrong.

My computer wont turn on after kids used it keeps going to launch repair page but then wont do anything else.

If you're using window xp/2000 you can try using the last known configuration option. Here are the instructions:

To load the last known good configuration in Windows 2000 / XP reboot the computer and as it's booting booting repeatedly press the F8 Key, which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow key to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" and press your Enter key.

Unit wont start, gray screen then goes to a screen with options on how to start unit and then goes blank

Answer:To load the last known good configuration in Windows 2000 / XP reboot the computer and as it's booting booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" and press your Enter key.
Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Advanced Options menu - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe Mode as the computer is booting into Windows turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the Safe Mode screen.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message as the computer is booting. If this occurs instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key" tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode
Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.
As can be seen from the above example, you should be able to highlight and press enter to load the last known good configuration. Once completed the computer should restart and attempt to load into Windows.
Will running the Last Known Good Configuration delete anything?
No, running the last known good configuration will restore your last good system settings and will not delete anything. The only thing you may have to reinstall programs you have recently installed because the configuration for those programs may have been lost.

Turn on and nothing happed just freezs

Turns on boots on acer page to 75% then goes to windows XP then a blue page with some writing that's so fast I cant' read it then back to Acer page again and so the cycle continues. Tried F2 got nowhere, tried F8 last known good configuration and safe mode but neither helped. Safe mode didn't boot. Any suggestions, if I need to update BIOS how do I do that - was suggested on another site.

My computer froze during shut down, so I turned it off using the power button. When I start it up It gives me the options of starting normally, Last known good configuration, safe mode safe mode with...

Try go into BIOS by hitting the DEL key or F1 or F2 as you start and go to save Cmos config. then reboot.
The other approach is Last known Good config is the best. This can be brought up after presing power button then by tapping F8 till screen apears.. Select Last known Good Config

Cant boot, get window saying restore last good known config etc

If you are asking how to re-install Windows XP, you must boot from the cd to do that. Either change your bios settings to boot from the cd first or immediately after the POST screen press F12, then choose boot from cd and when directed, press any key to boot from the cd.

If you're asking why your pc isn't booting there are many reasons it might not boot - virus, driver problems, hardware failure. Need more information if that's your question.

dot.gif How to load last known good configuration. Question: How to load last known good configuration.
Additional information: The "Last Known Good Configuration" option was first introduced in Microsoft Windows 2000 and is available in all later versions of Windows including Windows XP. This feature enables a user to load the last working version of Microsoft Windows. This is a great step to try when trying to fix issues with a computer not being able to load into Windows.
Note: Users able to open normal Windows XP mode and who wish to restore their version of Windows to an date before the last known good configuration may also wish to consider doing a system recovery in Windows. Additional information about how to do this can be found on document CH000589.
