Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1525 and when I try and burn a cd it ejects it saying please insert a blank disc. Checking on my other computer the disc is blank and burns on that one fine.

No I have had the hardware checked by Dell Support.

Looks like there is something wrong with the burning software (Roxio). Does anyone know if there is anything I can do as Dell want to charge me £40 to look at it?

I have the latest service pack 6001.

It Sounds like the read lens on your CD/DVD Writer may be dirty or faulty giving a false reading.

Depending on whether your drive ejects in a manner allowing you to see the lens or if the lens stays internal there are a couple of differnt ways to clean it.

If it stays internal you need to get one of those cleaner CDs that will give you directions on how to use it.

If you can see the lens you can get by with a couple of (Qtips) cotton swabs and some Isopropl alcohol. dip one end in the alcohol and squeeze out any excess, open the drive so you can see the lens, disconnect the power source (safety first) wipe the lens in a circular motion, no need for alot of pressure just wipe. After you've covered the whole lens use the dry end to dry off the lens. Give it a minute or 2 to dry completely then reapply power and check to see if it works now.

If this fails try to see if it reads a disc you know has data on it. Verify that you are using media that is compatible with the drive. Some can use CD -R, or CD +R, or CD -RW or CD+RW

If still no luck you likely have a damaged drive that needs to be repaired or replaced

Hope this helpS
Dave

You can remove or change the Window's User oradministrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access todownload the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot upthe laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CDwhich contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removalprogram. You will need to use a different brand of blank DVD-R disc, some DVD-R disc will not work with some optical drives. Try using a Sony or Phillips DVD-R discs, these two brands work best.

Inspiron 1525 PC Notebook: can i use Dell Inspiron 1525 to burn dvds? How to ...

Hi Richard, yes you can burn DVDs with your laptop. Check the CD/DVD disc that came with your computer. However, I understand its pre-installed either with Roxio or Sonic utilities. On the other hand, if you have Vista and Windows 7 it will do as well.

Please comment if the information provided has been helpful for the improvement of my support assistance. Thank you and regards.

It's time to replace the defective (and probably warranty-expired) unit.

If your computer is a notebook, not a desktop, it's best to take the computer to a qualified technician, to disassemble your computer, and replace the drive.

Are you a smoker? Its possible that a good bit of cigarette smoke buildup has accumulated on the CD burner's internal laser lens. One of those cheap CD cleaner disks might work to clean the laser lens, but usually one would have to open up the CD drive and carefully clean the lens using ear swabs moistened with isopropyl alcohol.

Burning CD

hello,

I gues that your burner is combo and only burn cd-r not DVD-R. Maybe its only a DVD REader and cannot burn to blank DVD. Try to see the Rom Specification of the DEll for more information.
