Can you check if the memory modules are loose / dirty ?

that means contacts may be dirty... you may need to grab a MONGOL pencil or any pencil that has an eraser on it and "erase" all the gold contacts on the edge that go to the motherboard... until they are shinny... just like if you were erasing.. both sides, that clean the contacts.. go ahead, do it and set them back in the motherboard...

I have a computer that would do nothing when turned on, including giving no beep codes. Everything seems to be getting power - the CD drive, CPU fan, and hard drive all start spinning. I disconnected...

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

hope this helps

My computer makes a highish pitched whirring noise every time it has to do something slightly difficult, typically a video or interactive things. What is it and can I fix it?

Yes, open the side cover and determine where the noise is coming from - Harddrive, fans, DVD/CD player, etc.. If it's the harddrive, start backing up your important data asap before it goes out completely. If it's a fan, power down the computer and clean the fan. If it's t DVD/CD drive, replace the drive.

I tried to move my hard disk and cd/rom drive to a dell tower but did not work and now when i put them back in my compaq evo i am only getting 3 beeping sounds when i boot up then it turns its self off ...

Hearing more than ONE beep is "bad" news.

Check that the wires from the fan on top of the CPU are connected to the power-supply pins on the motherboard, so that the fan spins when power is supplied.

Check that the RAM is correctly seated in its slots.

Check that the video-card is correctly seated in its slot.

Disconnect the power-connectors from the disk-drive and from the CD-ROM drive, and then start your computer. If it still beeps, without these devices attached, then these devices are *NOT* the source of the problem.

If all else fails, take the computer to a qualified technician.

When I start up my emachines D3315 the fan revs up then nothing no video nothing else happens.

it sound like you may have a motherboard problem you maybe looking at getting a new motherboard if the fan starts but nothing else happens.
its not a power problem this will be dealing more with the motherboard its self. try removing the hard drive if the screen says no hard disk found then your board is most likely ok. try rebooting and hitting f8 to insure that the computer is not stuck in a hibornation state. this is not likely but possible. do you see lights in the front of the computer? this will let you know that your getting enough power flowing thru the unit. if all this fails your motherboard has gone bad on you

When i press the power button the fan starts up but nothing else happen. sometimes it turns on and when it does, i can use it normally for days.

seems like you have hard disk issue.
I would suggest that the next time you computer power up fully you backu up everything that is important to you.
you will need to take your computer to service so they will check your hard disk.

Will not start up. Sounds like airplane on take off.

When the computer hangs and does not get to the OS, the Fans are going to run at full power. sound like the OS is messed up. do this:
Boot to your install disk and the run disk first aid. If everything is OK, you may have to reinstall the OS. for the NO SOUND. you may have had the volume turned off. reset pram and see if that helps.
