Question about Electrolux Vacuums

Open Question

I have an Electrolux LITE upright carpet cleaner - about 15 years old. Suddenly last night when using it, from the normal motor (whooshing) sound, the motor suddenly went very slow and with a slight grinding sound. The brushes are now just turning round very slowly and areobviously not picking up anything. Has the motor gone or is this repairable, or should I just get a new cleaner? I have tried to open the machine from the bottom to see if anything is obviously wrong, but it looks complicated and I'm concerned that I may not be able to get everything back together again! My machine has not had extensive use over the years. Any thoughts please? Many thanks, Derek McDonnell

SOURCE: dust blowing out of my vaccuum cleaner

Usually when dust is blowing out it is caused by a clog, either the hose, or the dirt inlet down by the brush roll is clogged. Check them and clean them out and you should be ok.

SOURCE: electrolux upright vac

Belts can look ok, but after a short period stretch so they won't turn the brush roll under load, if you have never changed it, and if it is a flat belt, I would try a new one.

SOURCE: Bissell upright vac, brush on bottom does not rotate

The front brush motor will not engage until the power is turned on and the handle is in the down position. In the upright position the brush motor wont engage. Typical faults will be the belt is broken and needs replacing or the fornt brush motor needs replacing.

Ive got an Electrolux powerglide pet vacuum cleaner. The rollers don,t turn and it don,t suck anything. It is only one month old but i lost my receipt.

Lucky, It would help to know when the rollers aren't turning. If they don't turn when the handle is in the upright position, that may be correct. Many of the newer upright vac's have a switch that turns the brushroll off when the handle is in the up position, so that it won't set and run in one spot of the carpet while you do overhead cleaning with the wand and hose. If it's not turning when the handle is down the belt might be broken, or just have jumped off the motor spindle that turns it, or, if it's one that has options for the brushroll function, the switch that controls that function may be malfunctioning, (broken). The last possibility that I can think of is that there may be some carpet cord, thread or rope, string, etc, wrapped around the brush roll to the extent that it can't turn anymore. If you could get me a model number I might be able to look it up and get a schematic for it which could give us more info. Send to (fixitcr63@yahoo.com)

How does the carpet cleaner work

Resolve carpet cleaner is a cleaner specifically designed to work on carpets. Resolve comes as a steam concentrate, a powder, a foam spray, or liquid spray. Before using the carpet cleaner you should vacuum the carpet. Resolve carpet cleaner works by being applied to the carpet then worked in with a soft bristled brush. Depending on the cleaner, it will be sprinkled or sprayed onto the carpet. Use the brush to work the cleaner down into carpet fibers. There is a waiting period for the cleaner to work, then you vacuum the cleaner out of the carpet.

My Bissell proheat carpet cleaner (this is my second one because the first one stopped working as well) won't dispense water, cleaner, or suck anything up. The motor turns on but that's about it. It is...

I'm not a big fan of Bissell products to begin with, but I can tell you from many, many years of experience that, far and away, the most common cause of problems with any of the carpet shampooer, steam cleaners, etc., is that they are stored with unused materials in the tanks and hoses. They are seldom cleaned, rinsed, or receive any type of cleaning before being put in the closet to be pulled out sometime in the future, with the very next attempt at application of the shampoo, or cleaner or whatever is still in the tank, not happening, because the hoses are plugged with a gelatin like substance. This is, in reality, what happens to many of the shampoos on the market, when they are left unattended for long periods of time. You haven't mentioned your cleaning, maintenance procedures concerning the unit, so I have no way of knowing just what may be causing your product, however, I think if I were you, and not using something more than twice a year, I think I'd look into renting a cleaning unit, rather than owning one.

Electrolux Epic Series 6500 SR. The machine is 15 yr. old & is working beautifully. However, when operating it emits a terrible stink, like cat *****. I've changed bags & filters but no ch

You need to have the vacuum cleaned out. If you are good with tools, just remove the motor and fans assembly, take the fans off and wash them. Brush ALL dirt out of the housing and reassemble. Your Electrolux dealer can do this but it isn't cheap. I used to be the service manager for my area. Since it isn't under warranty, you can have ANY reliable vacuum cleaner shop give a good cleanout. NEVER put anything into the cleaner to make it smell good. Electrolux cleaners get their power by having a straight through suction. The air goes through the motor. Adding smelly things can crystallize onto the motor and burn it out.

I have a 5 year old Dyson DC07 animal vacuum cleaner. I'm having problems with the vacuum strength when cleaning the carpet but not when using an acessory to clean the stairway carpet. Any possible

Hi Ronald,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. If your machine picks up well through the hose, but not through the cleaner head, it's likely that you have a blockage in the cleaner head.

The easiest way to locate and remove any obstructions is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=4&product=DC07-ANIMAL_US

It's also a good idea to give the filter a wash - in normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve your issue, but if you have any further questions, please get in touch with us directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Jack

Electrolux Epic series 3500 model Upright Vacuum cleaner motor(replace old one)?

I don't know what your question is, but replacing a motor for Electrolux, now Aerus, should be done by an authorized Aerus Electrolux service tech. The uprights are especially tricky to take apart and reassemble correctly. The address and phone number of the Aerus store/service center nearest you can be found at the site below.

My Electrolux is about 3 years old. Never had any problems with it until recently, it is LOUD. It doesn't seem to make a 'normal' running noise unless it butts up against a wall, furniture, etc. trying to vacuum is like being on a jet runway. Is something clogged? Does it just have issues from not being used for about a year? (Last house had no carpet).

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
It sounds to me that you have a broken fan, in every vacuum I have seen with the loud noise such as you described, it has been a broken fan or fan blade and is in need of replacement. You can try to do it yourself but I suggest going to your local vacuum cleaner dealer for service with the problem. Remember, a suggested belt change if the belt is flat would be 4 to 6 months and If you have a geared belt the belt change would be one year or better depending on wear factor. So, if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
