Question about Abit KT7A-RAID Motherboard

Abit th7raid motherboard-160GB HD cannot recognize-needs flashing-out of my depth!

Hello all first post!

Right basically, i have an abit th7 raid motherboard. I've got an a segate HD 160GB and just recently purchased another. As mention in the title it doesn't read the HD actual size and reads only upto 137GB (a problem i've known for a while) So i thought right new hard drive update everything etc....So, downloaded update for motherboard and ran the program then it was on about flashing the motherboard ??? So, i then tried loading my new hard drive before attempting this, but it came up with some sort of boot disc error saying boot disc sector was going to change? I'm assuming that was because i tried running the update driver?

Anyhow, i guess i have to flash my motherboard. 1. how do i do this via jumpers?! 2. will i have to set things up in my bios (never done that before!)

Thanks in advance,

Dave

    Many many thanks,

Hi coonster,

Abit TH7 Raid driver.

Windows inability to see all of your hard disk drive is not a motherboard issue.
It’s a windows issue. ( I suggest you use the hard disk drive software from the manufacture’s web site). Most allow you to download software that allows you to create a bootable floppy disk. Boot to this disk & setup the drive in a dos like window.
Once completed you can now boot to the windows CD. Do not allow windows to format
the drive.
That is what the manufactures disk will do for you. Install windows & please update it fully. Windows should see all of the 160GB after updating.
If you feel you need to update the bios, feel free to do so.
Follow Abit’s instructions on how to update the bios from this link;
http://fae.abit.com.tw/eng/download/bios/index_old.htm#486

If you have never downloaded a bios file or drivers from this site it can be a bit confusing. You’ll need to high-light the entire link below, than right click once to open the pop-up window. Than left click copy. Open internet explorer. Right click once in the address window & left click past. Than press the enter key on your keyboard. The site has a timer on the left side of the page. You’ll have to wait for it to reach zero.
Than a yellow bar will open across the top of the page that says, (To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options...). Right click once on the yellow bar & left click download file. Create a folder on your desktop & name the folder " Drivers". Download the file named " infinst_enu.zip" into the driver folder. Us any uncompressing program & uncompress the file keeping the files within the driver folder. The action of uncompressing the *.zip file will create another folder named " Disk1".

To download the Abit TH7 Raid bios is done like the instructions above. For this bios file you’ll need to do the same with the link below;
Abit TH7 Raid bios file name " th736.exe ".

http://www.updrivers.com/getbios/Motherboard/Abit/TH7-Raid-BIOS/6187.html

Please retype verification code: "enter code listed on site".
Press enter.
Again create a folder on your desktop & name it Abit bios.

You will not find any drivers, bios or manuals directly from Abit. They no longer support this motherboard.

Good luck!
Mike

The old Abit TH7 RAID mobo, ay?

The Socket 478 motherboard uses an Intel 82850 Northbridge chip, and Intel 82801BA Southbridge chip, for the motherboard chipset.
(ICH2 is 82801BA)

(Intel's term for their Northbridge chip is MCH. Memory Controller Hub,

The Northbridge chip handles the faster capabilities of the computer.
The Southbridge chip handles the slower capabilities.

The Northbridge chip handles the Processor, Ram Memory, and High-speed graphics.
AGP and PCI-Express are high-speed graphics.

{The Abit TH7 RAID mobo has an Accelerated Graphics Port expansion slot, for a graphics card. AGP)

As you can see in the chart on Wikipedia the FSB support for the Intel 850 chipset (Intel 82850) is 400MHz.

In conclusion, you know now that you can use an Intel Pentium 4 processor,
A) That fits in a Socket 478 processor socket,

B) Has a maximum Front Side Bus frequency rate ('Speed') of 400MegaHertz. (FSB 400MHz)

Motherboard is not recognizing my hard drive during boot process

It's probably the jumper settings on the hard drive. You can try cable select but I usually prefer just setting it as a master. Let me know if that works.

ABit-Th7 raid Drivers

This problem is very simple.... Using RAID in booting in cd/dvd cannot be done in this kind of processing. you have to change the setting of Hard Disk and CD/DVD to IDE in BIOS . To change the setting in the BIOS you need to press the Delete After you power on the computer.. In Main menu in the bios you will find the hard disk or cd/dvd settings to IDE, SATA, and RAID. change both hard disk and cd/dvd to IDE configuration. make sure the first boot in the Boot menu is the cd/dvd, where your windows cd installer is inserted. Save the settings by pressing F10 key in the keyboard.. I have the same problem as of you because i try it to change SATA, RAID but cannot boot to cd and cannot detect the hard disk when installing OS, but in IDE settings its okay.. and it works perfect.. after you installed the windows properly, you can change the Hard Disk or cd/dvd configuration to SATA or RAID.
