YOU NEED NOT TO USE SOFTWARE TO RESET BIOS PASSWORD. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SIMPLY OPEN YOUR SYSTEM UNIT. UNPLUG ALL CABLES ON IT. GROUND YOURSELF BY TOUCHING @ LEAST 10-15 SECONDS TO THE SYSYTEM UNITS COVER ( SO-CALLED CPU BY SOME) ON YOUR MOTHERBOARD, LOCATE THE CMOS BATTERY, REMOVE IT.
Option #1: Mechanically Removing the Password Most motherboards manufactured over the last decade or more use a battery to sustain the dynamic Bios/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip. These dynamic settings are those manually set by either the computers manufacturer or you, the user. There are two ways to erase these dynamic settings, by either resetting a jumper on the motherboard itself (referred to as a "clear CMOS" jumper), or by physically remove the power from the computer (disconnecting the power plug) and then removing a battery (used to maintain power to the PROM chip that contains the Bios/CMOS information) from the motherboard.

The procedures for clearing a Bios/CMOS without jumpers is essentially the same as those given above when they are present, it just takes a little more effort.

  • Shut down the computer and disconnect the power plug.
  • Locate, if possible, the instruction booklet for your motherboard. If you cannot locate the booklet, then user the motherboard references on this site to locate the manufacturer and see if a manual is available there. You may also want to closely examine the motherboard itself.
  • Now identify where the battery is located on the motherboard. It will be approximately 1/2 inch in diameter.
  • Normally these batteries are held into place with one or more small clips over the face of the battery. Carefully lift the battery out of its socket and set it aside. Note: Some batteries are actually soldered to the motherboard, so take that into consideration and be careful.
  • Leave the battery our of the computer for about 20 to 30 minutes and then return it to its socket.
  • Now plug the power cord back in and restart the computer.
  • When the computer begins it's startup (boot) process, tap the DEL, F10 or F1 key, (whichever is appropriate for your computer) to get into the Bios/CMOS setup. If you need more detailed information as to how to get to the Bios/CMOS setup, follow this link. Bios Basics
  • Once into the Bios/CMOS setup, look for a section or area to set the Bios/CMOS to its default settings. This will return the motherboard to either its basic or optimum settings depending upon the motherboard manufacturers settings. You will then need to verify certain settings, such a CPU and memory as well as hard drive type and size recognition. If you need more information regarding these settings, follow either of these links: For an AMI Bios or for an Award Bios.
  • After making any final adjustments, save your settings and restart the computer. The Bios password should be gone and the Bios set to its optimum settings.

The easy way to clear the bios password and reset bios is to take out the bios battery and start computer for about 10 seconds and then turn it back off and replace the battery. When you turn it back on you may need to go into the bios and reset everything the way you want it, and don't forget to rest the time and date.

Resetting Passwords In BIOS or Windows! Bypass

Due to the various operating systems and BIOS's on lots of computers I decided to do a little tutorial since I have noticed a lot of computer issues with this in the area of problems. Often times we purchase computers from a friend or at a flee market or from a private party or we just think that we have to password the <b>BIOS</b> or Log in if sharing a computer. This is always good to do but the problem is we tend to forget these passwords, I think most of us will agree we slip once in a while and with this process it can be painstaking to say the least on this matter. <br /> Now after running into this issue with many computers frankly it is frustrating to say the least when doing a repair I have to have the log in passwords from each computer that is sent to me and repaired if set. The clients tend to forget their passwords. So I have to have been prepared for this. Everyone looks for a simple solution to solving this problem in free software that will handle this for you. Because again there are many BIOS and Operating Systems involved there is not one fix in the software category free especially that will reset them for you or remove them. <br /> Now with all this said lets get to the meat here. What I do? is go to my favorite torrent file site, <a href="http://www.btjunkie.org">btjunkie.org</a> to find software that will work to reset a <b>BIOS</b> to default not having to use a password or seek out the password for me. I find these free software programs at <a href="http://www.btjunkie.org">btjunkie.org</a> Now you will need .iso which is also called <a href="http://btjunkie.org/torrent/MagicISO-Maker-5-5-Serial/44866e1d1c8ea26f756ddbcf96db3f8a634e889c5ffd">Magic.iso</a> by typing it in the search box at <a href="http://btjunkie.org/torrent/MagicISO-Maker-5-5-Serial/44866e1d1c8ea26f756ddbcf96db3f8a634e889c5ffd">btjunkie.org</a> or you can get the free stuff to burn an .iso image to disc by using Xpburner <a href="http://cdburnerxp.se/en/download">Click Here</a> to get it. Be sure to select ,iso image as well when you download this software it is free. <br /> You will also need to download this software that downloads torrent files. I use <a href="http://www.utorrent.com">Utorrent</a> for my torrent software files. <a href="http://www.utorrent.com">Click Here</a> to download this be sure to download this first. <br /> Once this software is all downloaded you can type in the btjunkie site in the search box without the quotes, "<b>Remove Password</b>" I have provided a link <a href="http://btjunkie.org/search?q=remove+password">Click Here</a>. <br /> There you will see loads of password remove software programs. Pick one that suits your needs whether you need to bypass a <b>BIOS</b> password or a Windows login password it is there. Be sure to pick the all green and not the red files and pick the most seeders and the most leechers. And read the comments when you look for any software at btjunkie.org this advice is for learning purposes and you will use this web site at your own risk. I'm not responsible for what you download there nor is FixYa! This is just an option in case you are at your wit end and cannot unlock the BIOS or a password that is forgotten. I hope that this assisted someone please comment and give me a high five if it has. The links have been provided above and are active. Thanks for using FixYa! John

Reset bios password

Hi, its very easy to reset password for bios.

You have two methods to rest on two different conditions.

First if you want to re-set in normal mode and a second thing if you have forgotten the password.

First of all enter into Bios Setup then Security and Reset your password.

Second if you have forgotten your password and you need to reset without power on your computer take these steps;

1. Uncover your computer
2. See a jumper near to hard connector. This jumper sets on two legs total of three and one leg free.
3. Changer jumper side ... It sets on free leg and then one leg will free.
4. Now, starts on your computer, it will give you a message. Now follow the message and accept changes for Bios and press enter.
5. Once again switch off your computer.
6. Reset jumper on the same place and cover your computer again.
7. Start your computer enter into Bios without any password. Now you can set your password from security tab again.

Wish you Good Luck

Bio's Password reset for gateway 98 desktop

BIOS passwords can be reset or removed in two ways:

1. using software 2. using hardware.

1. Software removal method - Here are two software apps to reset or retrieve BIOS passwords.

!BIOS - is a PC BIOS toolkit offering password removal/decrypt and BIOS settings modification/backup/restore.
You can download it here:
http://www.syschat.com/download120.html&act=down

CmosPwd - Cmos password recovery tools
http://majorgeeks.com/CmosPwd_d239.html

You will need to create a bootable Dos, or Linux or NT cd in order to run them.

2. Hardware Removal method :
- First you need to open the case.
- Then find the cmos battery (It will look like a nickel sized silver disk located on the motherboard).
- Remove the cmos battery for 30 seconds and then put it back in. You may have to tweak the bios settings afterward, but the password will be gone.

Good Luck!

I dont have the cd. i bought it at a tag sale. and i just put it together and its asking me for a password. i dont know it. so i wanna restore it to factory settings so that it erases...

If you are locked out of the BIOS then you can try and find default passwords for the BIOS online which may work, otherwise you will have to open up the case and remove the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS password. If it is a password in Windows, you will either have to buy a copy of Windows and use that disc, or download software which will allow you to 'crack' the password. Be aware however that using this software on a computer which you do not have the right to is illegal. I hope this helps and have a nice day!

Bios password removel of Dell Optiplex GX280

If you don't know the BIOS password, and need to access it - you'll have to unplug the AC power then open the case and remove the lithium "coin" or "button" battery from the motherboard. Wait 5 - 10 minutes (allows the capacitors to discharge) and replace the battery. This will RESET all BIOS values to default.

Restore AC power reboot. Enter the BIOS and change the values as desired. To access the BIOS, Press the F2 function key repeatedly during boot sequence. You may need to plug the USB keyboard into a different USB port if it doesn't let you in to the BIOS page.

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply - thank you.

OK, here is my guide to Remove Acer Bios password computer via Software. This has been done on testing machine Laptop Acer Aspire 3620/ Travel Mate 2420. Anyway, I'm not sure it will work on every Acer PC/Laptop so just consider to do at your own risk, I’m not responsible for any damages caused by this guide.

As we know most of Acer computer (Laptop & Desktop) allow us to setup BIOS in Microsoft Windows (9x/XP/Vista) environment. Great, this is the powerful that help us to remove the BIOS password cuz all we know if we enter Setup Utility at the boot time we have only three times of filling the password and if all wrong then the system will halt.
The program helps us to enter Acer BIOS setup in Microsoft Windows is “Acer eSettings Management” which comes with the CD when we buy Acer PC/Laptop. If you lost the CD then just come to Acer website to download the program.
