Question about Creative Labs Zen Stone Plus MP3 Player

I've posted this on loads of other sites with no solution yet.
I have a creative zen stone mp3 player that is not being recognised in My Computer and therefore I can't access it. 

It has previously worked but I use a lot of USB devices so I think it's a Drive letter conflict problem. It's not an issue with the player as it works fine on a friends PC.

The device is showing in computer management under Device manager>Disk drives. BUT, I cannot access Disk Management when the player is plugged in and so cannot change it's drive letter or reformat. At the bottom of the window is the message 'Connecting to Logical Disk Manager servivce' and then 'Still Connecting' but nothing happens after this. If I unplug the device, disk manager works fine again.

One other strange occurance in My Computer is that although I cannot see the device, when i unplug it, it shows as 'Removable Disk F' for a spit second before dissapearing again or if 'Removable Disk F' does show and I try and access it, it causes the windows explorer to crash and dissapear until I unplug the device and things return to normal. When the device was working it was called Zen Stone plus and not Removable Disk.
Also, restart & shutdown takes a LOT longer with the device plugged in and during start up/shut down, if I unplug the player, times go back to normal. I don't know if that means anything?

In addition I have tried:

Changing other device drive letters
Uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling
Resetting the Mp3 player


Any help please?!

    XboxModifier,  Tried what you've done. Then restarted the pc, it installed the software again, after a restart so things were looking good and the player showed in My computer as 'Removable disk F:' but I couldn't access it (clicked and got the egg timer then nothing). When I then unplugged/plugged back in nothing showed.


    I can't check the event viewer at the moment as my missus is out using the payer today (radio only!). So I'll have a look tonight.


    Is there a way of removing all trace of the divice from my pc? 


    Benimur - thanks. I've tried resetting the player but that does nothing. Really don't think it's a virus but I'll try connecting it with anti virus off later too.

    Hi, I had a similiar problem with an external hard drive, I went into the device manager and removed the usb devices from the system, then restarted the machine and it reinstalled the usb devices automatically, it all worked fine then, just out of interest what is your event viewer saying? you can access this by typing eventvwr in the run box above the start button

Hi,

Initially, it would be possible that the Zen Stone plus is infected with a virus and your PC's antivirus is preventing access to it. Have you tried a reformat of the Zen Stone plus and or a virus scan?

My creative zen stone plus mp3 isnt recognised when connected by a usb to the pc


first install all the drivers and software that came on the cd with the device. if the installation procedure asks to connect the device, connect it, if not, wait with connecting until after the install is complete and after you have rebooted the computer...

you may need to update (and format) the firmware of your stone, it is downloadable from creative but unfortunately their support site is under repair.

once they're back on, open the site, click support then downloads, get the firmware upgrade utility (inside it is the firmware) the just run it on your PC with the Stone connected to it.

Zen Stone not recognised in XP


There is a problem with the Zen Stone family.. I had the same problem.

U can proberly not turn on the player while it's not been recognized in WinXP ?? ( I mean when U plug it out).

Send it to Creative and they'll switch it.
