Since the LP2844 is a direct thermal printer, the first thing to check is to make sure you have direct thermal labels - regular label stock won't work. Just quickly scrape your thumbnail across the label, the friction will cause a black line if the label is direct thermal.
This is very little info, but I will try. First, have you cleaned the printhead, if not procede as follows: - Open the printer and with a soft cloth dampened with Isopropyl Alcohol or any clening alcohol gently rub the printhead to remove any built up dirt. If you look closely at the printhead elements, you may be able to see and feel with the pad of your finger any build up, continue to clean until it has gone.DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE A HARD OR SHARP OBJECT TO CLEAN THE PRINHEAD AS THIS WILL DESTROY IT.
Try the print again to see if it has improved. If not then adjsut the print head heat/contrast settings from either the printer driver or the software you are using to make the labels.
Welcome to the club. Been fighting this for almost a year. There is now a driver for vista available from Zebra to fix. I can now print 1 label from quick books. to print a second i have to restart computer and quick books. still searching for the answer.
The LP2844 can only print on Direct Thermal labels.
DT labels have the ink within the label and the labels react to heat. If these labels are to be exposed to direct sunlight they will eventually turn black.
If you scrape the label with fingernail you can usually see the black ink on label
The physical size of the labels is this max width 1 inch (MInimum) to 4 inches (Max). Maximum length of label depends on the amount of memory in printer but maximum size for standard LP2844 is 11 inches. With full memory can be 22 inches long.
The labels must be on a 1 inch core.
These printer can handle all label types.
1: die cut Labels - Use gap sensing.*

possibly not a real LP2844 but an LP2543, a printer mass produced for and used by UPS. refurbishers change the label and sell as LP2844 because they are almost identical.
if it has an AC-AC adapter, it is an LP2543. LP2844 uses a AC-DC adapter, and all LP2844's have USB ports.
