I finally got the drivers to download and i put them on a disc and installed them in the acer laptop but they are still not the drivers for the internet adapters or wlan or ethernet because under device manager i still can't get the devices to work. They have the ? mark beside them. I do believe that they will only run with vista

The xp copy is a true copy from microsoft but it does not have the drivers that support the hardware.

I am just about to give up I think it's something that acer put together with MS

Congratulations on a wise and bold move. I would do that myself if I had not the duty to serve those who haven't the courage, wherewithall or audacity to rebel against Microsoft. campus' query is a step towards resolution as Acer has many models but what do you mean they won't let you download? Usually there are two options: to 'Run' or to 'Save'. You should be able to boot from an XP cd. It is not clear what you mean by 'downloaded'  XP Home -you can't do that unless you mean that you have a pirate copy. If you want to load a pirate copy then you have to know way more than you now know. I have seen legal XP cds for sale that are cheap enough to make illicit activity a real waste of your (our) time as your next question will be how to activate after SP2 and on and on...good luck, Steve Medley

Often what happens is that the drivers have an executable file that must be run rather than just updating when you see an ! mark. Try the chipset utility from Acer rather than just the network adaptor driver. Acer seems to be the problem here if they haven't supported your laptop. They used to be an American product but have now become just another unsupported Taiwanese used-to-be and hence the adage: 'you get what you pay for'. Sorry, but I detest manufacturing companies whose support ends when you open the box. on your side, Steve Medley

Will not start up

hi , Reuben

I would suggest you try safe mode.
Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words "Safe Mode" appear in the corners of the display to identify which Windows mode you are using. If an existing problem does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes.
If you don't know the cause of the problem, you can use the process of elimination to help you find the problem. Try starting all of the programs you commonly use, including the programs in your Startup folder, one by one, to see if a program might be the cause of the problem.
Follow the steps to boot the computer in safe mode with networking:
1. Restart your computer if it is powered on.
2. Tap the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.
3. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.
4. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
5. Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter.
6. You should see drivers loading, and then please wait.
7. You should then be at the Welcome Screen.
8. Logon to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges.

What is the difference between windows 7 editions: starter, home basics, home premium, ultimate, professional, interprice?what is the difference between service pack 1 & 2???pc

Since October 31, 2013, Windows 7 is no longer available in retail (except for the Professional edition preinstalled):[6]
Windows 7 Starter Windows 7 Starter is the edition of Windows 7 that contains the fewest features. It is only available in a 32-bit version and does not include the Windows Aero theme. The desktop wallpaper and visual styles (Windows 7 Basic) are not user-changeable. Microsoft originally intended to restrict users of this edition to running three simultaneous applications but this limitation was dropped.[7]This edition was available pre-installed on computers, especially netbooks, through system integrators or computer manufacturers using OEM licenses.[1][8][9] Windows 7 Home Basic Windows 7 Home Basic was available in "emerging markets", in 141 different countries.[10] Some Windows Aero options are excluded along with several new features.[1] Home Basic, along with other editions sold in emerging markets, include geographical activation restriction, which requires users to activate Windows within a certain region or country.[11] Windows 7 Home Premium This edition contains features aimed at the home market segment, such as Windows Media Center, Windows Aero and multi-touch support.[12] Windows 7 Professional This edition is targeted towards enthusiasts and small-business users.[1] It includes all the features of Windows 7 Home Premium, and adds the ability to participate in a Windows Server domain.[1] Additional features include support for up to 192 GB of Random-access memory (increased from 16 GB),[13] operating as a Remote Desktop server, location aware printing, backup to a network location, Encrypting File System, Presentation Mode, Software Restriction Policies (but not the extra management features of AppLocker) and Windows XP Mode.[1] Windows 7 Enterprise This edition targeted the enterprise segment of the market and was sold through volume licensing to companies which have a Software Assurance contract with Microsoft.[1] Additional features include support for Multilingual User Interface(MUI) packages, BitLocker Drive Encryption, and UNIX application support.[1] Not available through retail or OEMchannels, this edition is distributed through Microsoft Software Assurance (SA).[1] As a result it includes several SA-only benefits, including a license allowing the operating of diskless nodes (diskless PCs) and activation via VLK.[14] Windows 7 Ultimate Windows 7 Ultimate contains the same features as Windows 7 Enterprise, but unlike the Enterprise edition, it was available to home users on an individual license basis.[1] Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional users are able to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate for a fee using Windows Anytime Upgrade if they wish to do so.[1] Unlike Windows Vista Ultimate, the Windows 7 Ultimate edition does not include the Windows Ultimate Extras feature or any exclusive features as Microsoft had stated.[1] All editions will receive Mainstream Support (new features and bug fixes) until January 2015 and Extended Support (security updates) until January 2020.[15]

How to fix computer problems for free

First make certain you have a virus program running and do a full scan. There are free ones around, most use AVG. You can get pop-up blockers, or look at internet options and select block pop ups.

Visit the following website called Black Viper. Follow the instructions and that should speed up your computer.
