I AM GETTING AN ERROR MESSAGE "PROTECTOR" FROM MY SONY HOME AMP

I have a Sony STR DA333ES. We had DirectTV installed on Friday. Before that I had never had any issues with the amp. Now DVDs will play for a minute or so and then the amp goes into a flashing "protector" mode. Other replies suggested checking the speaker connections, which I will do since that does make sense and is highly possible given how gentle the DirectTV guy was with my system.

This indicates that a problem was found in the final output section of the amp. Usually this means that the output transistors have failed. If you can post the model number, I can provide you with additional details and cost extimates for repair.

Thanks,
Dan

Problem with SONY STR-DA555ES home stereo receiver popping & going into protector mode

You may have the speakers incorrectly connected or the speakers you are using have an impedence that is too low for the amp to support.

3300 es sony, message "protector"....I unplugged

You've done about as much as a layman can do. I'd advise you get it to a hands-on tech for further troubleshooting. Or something is blocking the ventilation slots and it's overheating.

The manual:

Page 134 defines the indication.

Message "PROTECTOR"

Disconnect all speakers at the receiver and power it back on. If it stays on, check all speaker wires and speakers for shorts. If it cuts out, it needs service. If you need detailed troubleshooting help on this after testing receiver without speakers connected and it passes, post a comment and I can walk you thru it. Hope this helps.

Error code - protector

Try disconnecting all the speakers from the back and turn the unit back on. If the "protector" display goes away, turn the unit back off and reconnect one speaker. Turn it back on and check for "protector". Repeat.

If you find that one of the speakers causes "protector" to appear, you either have a bad speaker cable or bad speaker. Try swapping each of those out to see what happens.

HI, I have a sony v555es amp and it gives me the following error message "protector OPT.....please power off"

You might be trying to push it too hard, or you might have a short somewhere. Disconnect everything from the reciever except its power cord and turn it on. If it still goes into protect mode, then try to find a reset switch (not sure if this is on the Sony, some recievers have them). If it's NOT in protect mode, then you had a speaker wire shorting out on the back. Make sure that you don't have any stray wires when you connect the cables on the back of your receiver. It only takes one strand of copper to short out the amp section. If that doesn't work then pull the top cover off and chech the fuses out. One of them might be blown.

Wiz sony

The receiver has detected a problem in the final output stage and has shutdown to prevent further damage to either the amp or the speakers. The most common cause of this is shorted output transistors. Figure about $15-$30 for parts plus the local labor rate.

Protector

This message indicates that a problem was detected in the amp. In order to prevent any further damage to the amp or the speakers, the outputs are turned off. Does the receiver show this at all times now?

PROTECTOR (FAN) error message - what next?

Look inside the unit. There is a fuse you can replace in the rightmost front of the unit. 125v 3.25A, I believe.
