The scanner function on my Canon D480 has not worked since the installation.

Go to the scanner company website and see if there are drivers available for download. Sounds as if you may not have the proper drivers installed.

How do I scan a document?

Do you have the full software installed or just the basic driver from Canon? What OS are you using? http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp240#DriversAndSoftware has the software and drivers. If you installed the OS driver, you should uninstall that, disconnect the data cable and then install the driver from Canon. The generic OS driver usually only runs the printer.

Place the document face down on the scanner glass or face up if you have an ADF. Check that the all-in-one and the computer have good bi-directional communication. (Direct USB connection (if you are using that), replace cables if the printer works but not the scanner and the Canon software is installed.)

If you are using the Canon software, you need to set up the destinations for the buttons and have the monitoring software running. Thus start scanning from the computer at first. Launch MP Navigator and then click on the type of document you want to scan. Find the resolution and contrast that works for you. Use these in setting the button defaults (see the manual from Canon). Then click Scan.

Alternately, with Windows XP, Vista and Win7, you can scan with software that came with the OS. Paint is available on all of these OS versions (File > Import from camera scanner > from scanner). Vista includes PhotoGallery which works like Paint (this can be downloaded for XP and Win7). Vista and Win7 also can scan with Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan).

When you have the MP Navigator properly set up, you will be able to launch a scan from the printer. Press the Scan button and the software will launch.

I hope this helps.

Hi I need to scan a document and when i hit scan no action is taken. I have the MF4150 and im using it on a mac thank you

This unit does not scan with the Mac OS. The only available functions are: Print/PC Fax. The drivers are here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass_series/imageclass_mf4150#DriversAndSoftware . Use the drop-down menu to select Mac OS X. Note only Printer and Fax drivers are available.

To the best of my knowledge, you need to run a Windows virtual PC with the unit installed to that virtual PC or a second computer running Windows to get the Scan functions. For the virtual computer option, you will need a licensed version of Windows, the Windows version of the drivers from the above link and a program like Parallels.

I wish that I had better news.

I dont know how to get it to scan

Do you have the full featured software/driver installed? What OS are you using? Is the computer on and able to see the scanner of the all in one?
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=116&modelid=15403#DownloadDetailAct for the drivers.

Can you start a scan from the computer (MP Navigator or another scanning program (Windows 7 has Fax and Scan for example))?

If the computer doesn't see the scanner, try a new USB cable and plugging the all-in-one to a different USB port on the computer. If you have a print server or USB hub, try a direct connection. Scanners need a bi-directional communication that is very susceptible to signal loss problems that do not affect the printer.

If you did not install the full software before connecting the printer to the computer, you will have installed the OS's built-in basic drivers which does not support all of the buttons on the all-in-one but you should be able to start a scan from the computer.

I hope this helps.

Epson problem

Here is the download page

http://www.epson.co.uk/Store/Scanners/Epson-Perfection-4490-Photo/Drivers-Support?supportLandingPage=true

To scan to PC you need to use a prog with twain support the basic one in XP is paint.(start/all progs /accessories/paint/file/from scanner or camera) the scan appears huge but that's just the way paint does it save and open with another prog for printing (eg windows fax and picture viewer) and it wil be printed normal size.

When installing drivers do not connect scanner until told to do so by the install prog.

No printing on Mac OS 10.5.1

Check under the Apple site for this issue. I use Leopard and can copy and print with this machine. I have not tried the fax, however, I assume  it will work. The scanner does NOT work with Apple...at least yet...I am not sure if it is Apple or Canon or both who are at issue for this. As per the post below, the duplex works just fine for me. You may want to consider the possibility of removing the current drivers and reload the one's currently posted by Canon.
Duplex Printing

I figured out how to make duplex printing on the MF4150 work! Canon Tech support says that duplex printing is not supported, but they are mistaken.
Here is what you need to do:
1. go to the Canon site and download the latest UFRII driver (v1.5) and install it
2. in the application, go to page setup and select "Format For:" MF4100 Series [this was what I did not realize]
3. then, when you go to print, select the finishing tab, and then select 2-sided printing.
If you skip step 2, and you application defaults to "format for any printer," the 2-sided option will be greyed out. Other printer drivers do not require this, but the Canon driver does.
