My PC won't turn on

I got my PC from my uncle and when I used it, it worked fine but now it won't even turn on. It just goes to the E-Machine logo and stays there, I left it like that when I went to school to see if it would load but when I came home it was still on the logo!

    See if you can boot into safe mode or use the last known good configuration.

    Shut the computer off...turn it back on and begin tapping the F8 key. That should take you to a menu where you can try booting to the last known good configuration or boot into safe mode.

Hi,

A number of possibilities:
1. the files needed to run Windows are either corrupt or missing;
2. driver error particularly with the video card;
3. virus infection;
4. hardware fault.

A temporary remedy is try to boot to Safe Mode by pressing F8 even before the Windows logo appears. On powerup, keep pressing F8 after the BIOS/CMOS display (POST).

Thereafter pls post back if Windows will boot in Safe Mode and we can work out other ways to restore Windows to normal operation.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a Gateway 310 XL H desk top PC. After the storm, Isaac, It won't power on. The red and green lights come on, the red goes off after a short time. The monitor flashes a manfacture logo then

The system is powered up if green light on, the hard disk is powered up if red-light on for a few seconds then goes off, but I assume it's not loading up after that. You have no output to video.

Try holding f2 or f4 to load default bios when turning on. If that doesnt work then That would point to me that there is a problem with either:

1) processor burnt out, or needs refitting following a knock to the case causing a bad connection.

2) ram burnt out or not correctly installed. Try refitting the ram or using a different combination of ram.

3. Bios chip burnt out. Sometimes you can literally see the chip is slightly melted.

4. Other motherboard fault, look for melted chip or damaged component.

5. Psu faulty or not connected properly. Check connections, or bench test with another psu.

Have you moved the pc recently? Sometimes dust builds up under processor or along ram, and when moving pc giving it a slight knock can cause bad connection. If dusty, remove clean and re install.

Hope it helps.

Black screen right after dell logo

start tapping f8 after you boot the machine, when given the boot menu, try to load safe mode, and see if it loads. if it does, then you need to do a system restore back to before you got the black screen. more than likely windows loaded an updated driver that disagrees with your system. try that and let me know what happens :)

How do you turn off the printing every time you use the machine do not need it to work. 130cr i have

You can't turn it off on this model. If you don't want to use paper, that is fine, but just make sure you take out the ink roller so it doesn't build up ink in the printer. then you can run it without paper and it won't be damaged.

Please Help Me!

Hi,

Yes your asking too much of it,

An old system cannot keep up with all the memory intensive programmes and the processor will not cycle the information fast enough for you

This is why it is slow
add more ram, bigger hard disk drive too will help
if you can
delete anything off it you can too
increase the page file size,
will help

The monitor setting in windows maybe incorrect. When booting up before you get the windows logo start hitting F8 and then choose safe mode. If your monitor works in windows there then check the monitors settings. You may have a driver issue or a settings issue when in normal windows mode.

Comment by Kevin A, posted on Mar 13, 2008 The reason for this is that the standard XP disks do not have drivers for the SATA disk. When booting from the CD, the internal disk is not recognised and thus invisible to the XP setup program.
