Carriage jam

There are a number of things that can cause a HP printer carriage jam. To prevent it from recurring, one should keep in mind a number of things. Always ensure that the paper tray is not overloaded as this might result in the paper being stuck inside. Also the paper being used should be as per the manufacturer's recommendations. Turn off the printer when removing bits of paper. If there is a broken gear, do not repair it yourself. Call an HP expert technician to mend it.

Carriage Jam..what is that and how do I fix it

On an inkjet printer, the carriage is the piece that carries the cartidges back and forth in the printer. Open the printer and look around for a wad of paper, matchbox car, McDonalds Happy Meal toy or some other object that is impeding the movement of the carriage. If you don't see anything, carefully and gently slide the carriage back and forth along the entire movement range. It's possible that the toothed drive belt has come off as well.

False Paper Jam

Unfortunately, I think that the sensors are beginning to fail, and that is the result of a faulty sensor. How old is the printer? If I was you I would call HP and talk to them.
