enter windows in safe mode and restore your system to an earlier date before you encountered this problem

If Vista it is working well on Safe Mode, you have to check it out what is going wrong there instead of downgrade the system to XP.

Remember: Which was the last program that you've installed?

When was the last time that the system started normally?

You can try uninstalling the last programs

Also clean the computer and be sure that your pc is not virus or spyware infected.

My labtop came to a boot up screen that has the options: safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, and start windows normally. i have windows xp....

Hello xderekhx716, to choose the [least] likely {Mode} in order not to "Lose any Data," you want to choose; "Start Windows in Safe Mode." If an incident 'occur' before this 'window' [Popped-Up], then you want to "Start the Computer in {Safe Mode}. This 'way if you have been "Infected by a 'Virus' or any of the Computers Configurations have been 'changed,' or "Windows Shut Down 'Unexpectedly' than Safe Mode is the 'choice,' because the; least amount" of Operating Systems, applications will be deployed at "Startup," ie. Drivers, Programs... This will 'protect' the System' from further 'damage', if there was any? You will have the opportunity to analyze the situation safely. Next, if the Computer is having 'problems' starting, or the "Operating System is not 'responding' or there is "no change, than a "message" will identify the 'still' remaining problem; "Starting Normally." Then you want to 'choose,' start Windows at the "Last Known Good Configuration" also known as "System Restore." Finally, if this was just a "simple "Shut-down?" Than, "Starting Windows Normally" is OK! Follow all the instructions "carefully" in any of the "Modes" you may need to [Choose]. I hope this information is helpful? Thanks for using FixYa, paul7of9"

Help my hp dv2000 just keeps restarting??

Hi,

As the computer is working in safe mode, it is clear that operating system files are corrupt.

Perform a repair installation, if it is Windows XP.

For Vista or Windows 7, you can perform system restore from recovery console. To launch recovery console, insert the disc- restart the computer and boot into the disc. Choose repair in the options tab, then choose system restore from the list.

Regards,

Nags

Hi let me which operating system you are using. if its xp only thing you can try is try logging to safe mode. then go to control panel and you can see your username and you can change the password there.

If its vista you can go to advanced boot options by pressing F8 during system setup or when u see the dell logo. select repair your computer, try login with your previous user name and let me know otherwise we can do other steps if its vista. if its xp and then trying the safe mode does not work then you will have to reinstall windows.

thank you

Safe mode

Hi there, Try tapping F8 on boot to access the boot menu select "start windows normal". if it will not let you boot in to safemode with cmd promt and run "chkdsk /f" to check for bad sectors and repair othere HD issues. Also try "Last known Configuration" as a last ditch effort before moving on to System restore. IF system restore options fail to work let me know and we can do a system restore and restore your system to an earlier time through the cmd prompt. Good luck and i hope this helps

Mcafee for xp installed on pc with vista

Do a safe mode start up and remove the antivirus that should get you up and going, also check in your properties and make sure your settings for going to sleep or hibernation are off, Safe mode should get you going also you can do a system restore to the day before all this happend. McAfee for xp will not work with vista. if you want a good free antivirus try Avast dot com. I sure hope you get it up and going if not let me know. Thank you
