Question about Sharp R-1480 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

18 month old Sharp1406F Micorwave won't turn on, heat or rotate. Light and time work.

We took it apart and the door latch looks ok. No breaks or cracks. Don't know about the switchs.
We can set a cook time and the light comes on, the timer works by the heat doesn't start and the turntable does not turn.

I have had the problem for about 2 years. I used to be able to stick a credit card into the slot and get the latch tight enough to connect but now no matter what I do it doesn't make contact

The problem is the primary (bottom) interlock switch, or possibly its mount may have a broken tab. The tab is hard to see, since it's on the underside of the switch.

Microwave light comes on but no power

If the light works what does not work? Some of these have a safety switch embedded in the door opening (have to get at it from inside the unit) that will prevent unit from cooking and not allow the table inside to rotate.

Its there to prevent the unit from being used if door is open but it sometimes either fails or gets out of position.

Door latch

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Open Lever If the microwave door won't open the open lever might be broken. This part can be replaced separately.

Door Spring If the microwave door won't open the door spring may have broken. The door spring is located inside the door and keeps downward pressure on the door hook.

Door Latch If the microwave door won't open the door latch might be broken. The door latch is inside the microwave. The door hook, which is part of the door, engages with the latch to keep the door closed during operation. If the door latch or actuator breaks the door may not open.

Door Hook If the microwave door won't open the door hook might not be releasing properly. The door hook is installed inside the door and normally releases when the door is opened. The hook is made of plastic and will break over time. When this happens it will need to be replaced, it can't be repaired.

Button Spring If the microwave door won't open the button spring might be broken internally. The button spring can be replaced.
Button If the microwave door won't open the button might be broken internally. The button can be replaced.

Handle Actuator If the microwave door won't open the handle actuator might be broken. This is a plastic part which can become brittle over time. This part is connected between the door button and the door latch assembly.

Microwave light stays on and unit won't heat/run

If it's not heating at all, the magnetron is to blame.

Samsung microwave door won't latch

You will need a Samsung dealer repairman, the inner mechanism will need to be serviced because for some reason it is jammed or there are broken parts.

Carlton Microwave - C25MW09. Microwave unit stays on after timer has finished although light goes off and turntable stops rotating. Have to turn it on and off at the mains otherwise microwave unit would...

It is possible that the relay is staying latched to supply voltage to the magnetron even after the timer shuts down. This is dangerous and must be rectified.
You need to check the door switch and the lines from the program timer to switch the relay of the magnetron. It is possible that the timer is faulty and needs a check on the reason why it stays latched unless the power is cut. You can disconnect the magnetron to test but attempt ONLY if you are familiar with high voltage/ electrical circuits.

FMV 156DSB Timer and light works, but does not heat unless you push up on bottom of door.

Slacken off the lower hinge screws and re set the door to the correct height, then tighten them back up.
That should sort that out.

Hi I have a new Kenmore microwave model 721.8503 - it is a month old and wont turn on.. I close the door and the light stays on and it wont work..the door is completely shut

It sounds like the light switch isn't being deactivated which is preventing the microwave from operating (a failsafe).
Look to see that the buttons inside the microwave (where the latches are inserted when you close the door) are actually being pressed.
They may be out of place, obstructed, or your latches on the door may be damaged.
If you don't see anything wrong, try pressing the buttons yourself (with a pen bottom) to see if the light goes off.

Works but no heat

Possibly a blown fuse inside, or a defective magnatron. If you decide to open the unit, please unplug it first!
