Power cuts out

The battery is completely dead and/or wont charge. So the battery has been removed. I think it will charge the battery if it stays on long enough. It worked fine plugged into the wall.
About 2 months ago, all of a sudden it quit. Worked with it, restarted it and it would run for 2 minutes and then completely loose power. Now it will stay running when it feels like it. But at any moment it cuts out. Some times it takes 5 - 6 times trying to start it before it decides to stay running for a bit. Sometimes when you wiggle the cord it cuts out, other times it doesnt. Could it be the power cord? Or the port that the power cord is plugged into?

The battery trouble light usually didn't light up, but when it finally did, it charged for a bit and then ran for a very short time. The main trouble is not the battery.

Has anyone had an adapter jack or power cord go bad?? Could replacing these fix this problem?

Try to check the adapter jack with a multitester and see if there is any voltage (take note of the polarity = red test prod goes to the inner part of the jack and the black test prod goes to the outer part) set your multimeter to 12v dc. then try to move the jack with the test prod connected in a swinging motion and see if the voltage drops and comes up. if it does then you have a defective jack.

Whenever you plug the adapter to your laptop, there is a small pilot light which lights up. if it doesn't light up that means your adapter is not charging your battery. if it does, then maybe you should change your battery. just a little tip : it would harm your pc if it often goes off unexpectedly or improperly shuts down.

Batter wont stay charge

Most laptop batteries have a life expectancy of two years or 400 to 450 charge and discharge cycles. After this time, the battery may lose the ability to charge or to hold a charge for substantial periods of time. When this happens, it's likely the battery needs replacement. However, troubleshooting can narrow the problem and ensure you are not wasting money on a battery replacement.

Check Power Adapter Turn the laptop off. Remove any power cords or power sources. Separate the battery from the bottom of the laptop. Slide or press the locking mechanism to unlock the battery. Slide the battery out of the battery compartment. Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet. Insert the opposite end of the adapter into the charging outlet on the side of a laptop. Power on the laptop. If the laptop does not turn on, the power adapter is not correctly working. If the power adapter is not working, the battery can not charge. Replace the power adapter. If the laptop powers on, the power adapter is properly working. Clean Battery Contacts Turn the computer off. Remove any power cords or sources. Take the battery out of the battery compartment. Dip a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol. Rub the dampened swab on the battery compartment and battery contacts. Dust and buildup can prevent battery contacts from properly charging. Slide the battery back into the battery compartment. b> Charge and Test Battery Plug the power adapter into the laptop. Charge the battery for six hours. Remove the power adapter. Turn the laptop on. If the laptop turns on and stays on for at least 30 minutes, the battery is holding a charge. If the laptop doesn't turn on or the battery doesn't power the laptop for at least 30 minutes, the battery should be replaced.

I have an Hp pavilion ze 4800 and think that the battery is completely dead how can I tell for sure'

Pull the AC plug. If it's more the 4 years, I would say it's done. A battery has a Cycle limit, charge/discharge. Be sure to shop for a quality battery, stay clear of cheap batterys, they often don't work well with your laptop. If you have a multimeter you can verify, but if it will not charge or hold a charge, it's most likely time to replace.

My laptop is completely dead, fine yesterday. Today no lights, sounds nothing. I tried removing the battery , unplugging no response. Thanks,

Remove the battery for at least 3 minutes... Then put it back and then plug in the charger and switch on the charger. If the battery is completely drained, it would take a while for the charging to initiate. Please have patience and leave it on charging even though without the charging indication for at least an hour. After that still if the charging indicator doesn't lit, then its definitely your charger or laptop. You will need to take it to a service centre in that case.

My compaq presario r3000 wont charge. its plugged in but when i unplug it it immediatly turns off. the battery life constantly says 0%. it wont drop from that or get any higher. in the bottom right hand...

Sounds like the battery, had similar problems.. if you purchase a new battery make sure you get the right kind there are two types, an 8 cell or 12 cell..

The fix for my pressario involved completely stripping it and soldering 3 pins on the power connector on the mainboard.. not difficult but no mean feat.. now works perfectly (with the inclusion of a 12cell battery)

My computer has a fully charges battery (I checked by seeing the lights on when I press the check button). I also checked by running power check in control tab. When I un plug the power cord the computer...

Sometimes with rechargable batteries such has those on laptop computers the battery develops a "memory". This is caused by the battery not being run completely dead before recharging. The cells in the battery think they are all charged but they aren't and thats why the computer says they are. This is very common in cell phones as well. It is a good idea to completely charge a new battery and run it completely dead for the first 5-10 charges or so to prevent this. It is also advisable to run the battery dead and fully charge it once a month from then on. If there is a batteries plus stone near you they may be able to test the cells. if it is a bad battery the have 3rd party as well has hp brand batteries that are cheaper than going thru the manufacturer. Hope this is helpful to you.

Wont power up? power light on battery indicator light on hard drive light off

Hello,

Remove battery and test on A/C only. If it stays completely dead when switching on then your A/C is broken or your mainboard. Test with another A/C adapter.

If it goes on fine without battery with only being on A/C, then you know your battery is faulty.

Problems

Hi, i think the battery has completely run down, i suggest you get another battery and ensure you don't allow the new battery to completely run down before yo charge.

As`soon as it shows low battery, you try charge or shut down to save and give your battery long life span.

I wish best of luck

Check and verify the AC adapter is working.
If it is then you can try removing the battery with the adapter connected try to boot the laptop.
If it boots, reinstall the battery and check to see if it is charging.
Hope this helps.
