Question about Projection Televisions

I have a AKAI LCD TV. When I try to turn it on the green light will come on and then go back to standby. If I unplug it and replug it, it will usually come on.

What is the model number of your LCD?
As mentioned by mistersony, there might be some capacitors loosing their dielectric capability and that is why you need to unplug it to restore its functionality.
I've repair a few hundreds of these power supplies, let me know if you need further assistance.

Looks like there is a short circuit or broken solder somewhere on the board(s) causing the system to go into a protect mode. I would check for these first.

PS - if you have no prior experience with TV repairs, I'd recommend leaving this to a professional, as there are voltages inside that can KILL, even when unplugged.

It is possible you have one or more leaky capacitors in the power supply that will not allow the switching power supply to start. Examine the power supply for any signs of swollen capacitors or capacitors leaking onto the power supply board

The caps that are bad are usually tall cylindrical parts with numbers like "3300 uFD 50v" on them

Mitsubishi wd-73738 turns itself back on

Hi,

It sound like the remote is powering off the cable box but not the TV. The remote control may need to be reprogrammed to the TV. When you press power it may only power off the Cable box. At that point, try pressing the TV button on your remote and then Power. If it does not power off the tV after pressing the tV button, the remote may need to be reprogrammed to the tv. Cable companies usually have the codes needed to program their remotes to the TVs.

Here's an excerpt from the Sony Manual online. And the link - http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/webtree.pl?template=EN&mdl=KDF55XS955&content_id=68&category_id=11&problem_id=52

The POWER/STANDBY (red) indicator flashes three times
If your power/standby indicator is flashing in a pattern of three flashes, this may indicates that the lamp cover is not attached securely. Follow the directions in the Operating Manual under changing your lamp that related to closing and securing the Lamp Cover. Ensure that the Lamp Cover Door is securely fastened by tightening each screw.

The POWER/STANDBY (red) indicator flashes continously
If your power/standby indicator is flashing continuously, and the lamp cover has been secured, your TV may be in need of service.

The POWER/STANDBY indicator is lit up green (not flashing)
A sustained green light indicates your TV is on.

The POWER/STANDBY indicator is lit up red (not flashing)
A sustained red light from your power/standby indicator simply indicates that your TV is in standby mode. This shows you that your TV is ready to be turned on with the remote.

Is it the power light and not the lamp light? If the lamp light is flashing then replace the lamp.

RED TIMER LIGHT BLINKS AND WILL NOT POWER UP HELP

Open back of TV, there will be two STK's (black boxes) unplug the harness connector from the power supply into the stk board and turn on. If you get some light to the screen, you know now to replace the two STK's and then replug the power supply to the convergence board. If that does not work, the power supply may also be bad.
