Kenmore Model 665.15891791 Dishwasher

I first must admit I could not find where to post a new problem for a product model that was not already listed so I placed it here. My kenmore dishwasher (model 665.15891791) has a heating problem. If you wash the dishes and let it complete the cycle and cool without opening the door at the end of the cycle it will melt any plastic items inside. You have to open to door just before the cycle ends and prop it open to let the inside cool down to keep anything from melting. This problem occurs no matter what cycle you place it on. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim

Re: kenmore Model 665.15891791 Dishwasher

Tim, start with the vent itself. Sometimes these vents get clogged with gunk and will not let the hot air escape. After that you will have to do some testing. Your model should have a safety thermostat that opens if the temp inside the dishwasher gets too hot cutting power to the heater. If your dishwasher has a heated dry selection you want to make sure that pad is working. You would have to select air dry, and see if the heater is getting power with a meter during the drying period. If so, you probably have a welded relay on the board. back.

Leaking around heating element posts that protrude through dishwasher body

Some dishwashers like your model number are under recall for a potential fire hazard due to water leaking through the heating element posts onto the wiring.
Your serial number must begin with the 2 letters listed . Below is the list of recall serial numbers: FL, GL, HL, LL, ML, VL, ZL, AM, DM, FM, GM, HM, LM, MM, RM, SM, TM, VM, ZM, AR, DR, FR, GR
Call the phone # below or check out GE recall website. What GE does is replace the element and gaskets, unless there is burnt or arcing visible on the wires, they may replace the dishwasher.
GE has determined that an electrical failure in the dishwasher's heating element can pose a fire hazard. GE will provide a free repair to all consumers with units affected by the recall. We ask that you not use your dishwasher until it is repaired and to disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling it and inform all users of the dishwasher about the risk of fire.
Consumers who instead wish to replace their dishwasher with a new model can receive a rebate towards the purchase of certain new GE and Profile brand dishwashers. Consumers can use a rebate of $75 for the purchase of certain GE front-control plastic tub dishwashers, or a GE rebate of $100 for the purchase of certain GE front-control stainless tub dishwashers or GE Profile top control dishwashers. See the rebate form for eligible models.
GE is aware of 15 reports of dishwasher heating element failures, seven of which resulted in fire and smoke damage beyond the unit. No injuries have been reported.
The model and serial numbers are important, as not all dishwashers are included in the recall. Look at the inside on the front left side of the dishwasher tub to find the model and serial number.
This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which will also monitor the effectiveness of the recall program.
Recall Hotline
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. ET.
Before calling, have the model and serial numbers on hand.

Last nigh my Maytag dishwasher model # MDB7100Aww serial # 15666931YM caught fire. Luckily I heard it and was able to put the fire out before my house caught fire. Has there been a recall on this model...

Yes, there was a product recall for your Dishwasher due to fire hazard. Please visit the following pages for further information:

The list includes model numbers beginning MDB7 with serial numbers ending in YM, so yours is one of the units affected.

With regard to repair / replacement / compensation, Maytag state the following:

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using these dishwashers, disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling it and inform all users of the dishwasher about the risk of fire. Contact Maytag for either a free in-home repair, or a $75 cash back reimbursement following the purchase of a new Maytag®, Jenn-Air®, Whirlpool® or KitchenAid® dishwasher. Consumers should not return the dishwasher to the retailer where it was purchased, as retailers are not prepared to take units back.
Consumer Contact: For more information, contact Maytag Corporation at (800) 675-0535 anytime, or visit the firm's Web site at

Hope this helps - I would advise phoning them on the number above to find out what your exact position is as this recall was issued in 2007. However, there should not be any time limitations on claims and this still appears to be an active recall. They have admitted the dishwashers are dangerous and thereby accepted liability.

Rolling trays need to be replaced

You're missing some digits for your Kenmore model number, so I can't provide with a direct link to the parts list for your particular model.

However, if you can get all of the digits, including the pre-printed ones, on the factory label, you can go to and obtain a parts list and line drawings that show all available parts for you dishwasher.

If you are having trouble determining what your model number is, you can also give Sears Parts hotline a call at (800) 252-1698 and they'll assist you with getting the model number and provide you with the part numbers for the replacement parts you're looking for.

The parts you're looking for are typically available. But if the cost of those replacement parts is more than 50% of the cost of a new dishwasher, you might want to consider if a better choice for you is replacing the unit, rather than spending more than $150-175 on trays and racks. Think about any future other component issues you might encounter, as they would likely put you in the price range of new Kenmore dishwasher.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Our Kenmore Dishwasher caught fire.

You may want to contact Sears to see if there was a recall on your model dishwasher. There were problems with the door assemblies on some model dishwashers that were caused by the rinse agent leaking into the wire harness of the door. Over time the rinse agent would corrode the wire insulation causing the units to catch fire in some cases. The fix was a free inner door and wiring harness upgrade kit from the manufacturer. Here is a link you can refer to that may offer some assistance:

Although I did not see your model number listed, you may want to call the Consumer Product Safety Commission number listed at the bottom of the page and report this incident.

I hope this offers some assistance to you.

Concerning recall due to fire hazard. Kenmore model # 36315561790 serial # AT313271R

Go to the GE web site and look. If your model and serial # are listed they will send you a rebate form. This is good for up to $300 off a new dishwasher. If a fairly new model they will send a repair person to fix it for you at no charge. The fire hazare is caused by rinse agent leaking onto the wiring. If you have never used Jet dry or a similar product don't worry. It won't affect you. You can still get the dishwasher fixed free.

Kenmore dishwasher

fatubu, are you sure you have the correct model number, Im not finding anything on the posted model. They had an issue on models close to this that had an issue with a twisted or missing seal in the pump assy. causing water to fill the pressure switch hose. The dishwasher would drain water after the fill. The fix was to replace the pump and motor assy. back.

Kenmore dishwasher 15899100

Dennis, Im assuming your model number starts with 665. This model had a service flash on it regarding the upper spray arm. The upper spray arm has been redesigned for better performance. Part number 8269022. This could be covered by Sears if you mention the service flash, 22-714. Other issues that can lead to this problem are; water hardness, if your water is over 7 grains of hardness, this could to this film on the glasses. Try pouring 1/4 cup of Glass Majic into the bottom of the dishwasher. Also run one cup of white vinegar to clean the dishwasher. Make sure the water temp. entering the dishwasher is 120 min. to 150 degrees. back.
