You can order a recovery disc from Acers website, but they will charge you for the media and the shipping.

If you know someone else that has an ACER you can use their machine to create a restore disc.

then its a matter of entering the BIOS(Press delete right after the logo screen turns off) and setting it to boot from the CD/DVD drive then insert your recovery disc and reboot

Hope this helps

Do you have the product key for Windows Vista - it should be on a sticker on the side of the computer. If so, you can try the following:

  • Borrow a friends DVD for Vista and enter your product key when asked.  This will automatically select the correct version of Vista as all version are stored on the same DVD.

First I want to give you the link for your laptops User Manual. Just click on it and it will take you there, ok?

OK.. from what I have read, it seems that you can only perform the recovery option if you have Allready produced the CD/DVD Recovery images through the ACER eRecover Program. You can find All the information on page 97 of the Manual with the Above Link. OK? If you have not made your Recovery Disks yet, Do Them Now & then follow the instructions to perform the Recovery after that.. ok?

How do you restore an acer 5738 to its factory settings

Unlike other laptops, Acer laptops integrate a computer management utility called 'Acer eRecovery Management' to create backup of hard drive data, create restore point, reinstall applications & drivers, and reset Acer laptop to factory setting.

Step 1: Before starting your Acer laptop, ensure that there is no external storage device attached to it. Now start your laptop.

Step 2: Press 'Alt + F10' when the laptop starts booting, and wait for a moment while Windows loads the reset files.

Step 3: When 'Acer eRecovery Management' window appears, select 'Restore System from factory default' and click 'Next' to continue.

Step 4: Again click 'Next' to reset your Acer laptop. This process will erase all data from your hard disk and reset your Acer laptop to original factory settings.

Step 5: Click 'OK' in the notification window to begin the the resetting operation. Now wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

Tips: You can also create a backup copy of your laptop data before factory reset. Simply click 'Backup' in 'Acer eRecovery Management' window.

This was taken straight out of the manual for your model, which can be found here.

Acer eRecovery Management
Acer eRecovery Management is a tool to quickly backup and restore the system.
You can create and save a backup of the current system configuration to hard
disk, CD or DVD. You can also backup/restore the factory default image, and
reinstall applications and drivers.

Acer eRecovery Management consists of the following functions:

1 Create backup
2 Burn backup disc
3 Restore and recovery

This chapter will guide you through each process.
Note: This feature is only available on certain models. For systems
that do not have a built-in optical disc burner, plug in an external
optical disc burner before entering Acer eRecovery Management
for optical disc-related tasks.

When using Acer eRecovery Management, you may be prompted to enter the
Empowering Technology password to proceed. The Empowering Technology
password is set using the Empowering Technology toolbar or when first running
Acer eLock Management or Acer eRecovery Management.

Create backup

You can easily create full and fast (incremental) backup images of your system
configuration to hard disk from the main Acer eRecovery Management screen.
Note: Fast (incremental) Backup is only available after a Full
Backup is made.

1 Press <Alt> + <F10> or select Acer eRecovery Management from the
Empowering Technology toolbar to start Acer eRecovery Management.
2 In the Acer eRecovery Management window, select the type of backup you
want to create using Full or Fast.
3 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.

Burn backup disc
Using the Burn Disc page of Acer eRecovery Management, you can burn the
factory default image, a user backup image, the current system configuration,
or an application backup image to CD or DVD.
1 Press <Alt> + <F10> or select Acer eRecovery Management from the
Empowering Technology toolbar to start Acer eRecovery Management.
2 Switch to the Burn Disc page by selecting the Burn Disc button.
3 Select the type of backup (factory default, user, current system,
application) you would like to burn to disc. Choosing to burn a user backup
will burn your most recently created backup image to disc.
4 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.
Note: Create a factory default image when you want to burn a
bootable disc that contains your computer's entire operating
system as it was delivered to you from the factory. If you wish to
have a disc that will allow you to browse the contents and install
selected drivers and applications, create an application backup
image instead — this disc will not be bootable.

Restore and recovery

The restore and recovery features allow you to restore or recover the system
from a factory default image, from a user created image, or from previously
created CD and DVD backups. You can also reinstall applications and drivers for
your Acer system.
1 Press <Alt> + <F10> or select Acer eRecovery Management from the
Empowering Technology toolbar to start Acer eRecovery Management.
2 Switch to the restore and recovery page by selecting the Restore button.
3 Select the backup point you would like to restore from. You can also
choose to recover the system from a factory default image, recover from a
previously created CD/DVD or reinstall applications and drivers.
4 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.

Forced to Shutdown on boot-up. Messed by wrong usage of Combofix

Drivers for Acer products may be found on the Acer support page ( http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/ ). Search for the product and download the drivers. Alternatively, the factory installed drivers and applications can be re-installed by using Acer eRecovery.
Follow these steps:
  1. Press ALT and F10 to start Acer eRecovery.
Please note: It will be prompt to enter or create a password. This password will be required to use eRecovery in the future. Forgetting this password will require the use of the recovery discs to reformat the system.
  2. In the next window, select Restore or Recovery. This will vary from system to system.
  3. Choose Reinstall Applications/Drivers
  4. Choose Install
  5. Click on Windows on the left side of the page.
  6. Choose driver or applications.
  7. Choose the item to install
  8. On the right, click the install link and follow the prompts.
  9. The system may restart when installation is complete. If it does not restart, manually shutdown and restart the computer.
If a set of recovery discs was created, or received when the system was purchased, the factory installed drivers and applications may be reinstalled from that media as well. Start the computer and insert the System CD (or the first disc) and browse the disc and choose which item to install.

I have an Aspire 3680 Acer laptop and it has Acer Arcade bundled with the other software on the laptop. I am not able to view DVDs on the laptop using Acer Arcade. Please help!

"Installing other playback software affects the codecs Acer Arcade needs to playback the disc properly. I suggest you reinstall Arcade and see if the playback in Arcade clears up. Here are the steps to do this:

To restore a driver or application that was preinstalled on your computer from the factory, you need to run Acer eRecovery, here are the steps:
1. Move your mouse over the Empowering technology widget and click on the eRecovery Manager icon or you may also press ALT and F10 on the keyboard to start the program.

Please note: The first time you access the eRecovery feature, you are prompted to create a password. If you forget it then you will have to use the recovery discs to reformat the system.

2. In the next window look at the bottom of the window and choose Restore.

3. Now choose Reinstall Applications/Drivers

4. Choose Install
5. Click on Windows Vista on the left side of the page
6. Choose driver or applications.
7. In the list choose the item you wish to install
8. On the right click the install link and follow the prompts.
9. The system may restart when installation is complete

Do not allow the system to shut down during this process. Plug in the AC adapter if necessary. "
