I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop. It just shut down on me one day and I could not power it back up. I thought it was the battery. I got a new battery and put it in, it worked for 5 minutes , then shut down and will not power up again. It will not work on battery or while plugged in. Help!!!!!

The power jack in the computer is probably worn out. There is a metal tab tab inside the power jack that bends to connect or disconnect the battery when you plug or unplug the adapter. Unfortunately, it wears out and stops disconnecting the battery after a period of time so your computer is always connected to the battery and it never charges. Once the battery discharges the computer shuts down and will not restart. The good news is the dc power jack can be found for under $10 but you need to take the computer apart to install the new jack. The bad news is that it's going to wear out again. Mine did.

Unplug the computer, hold the power button down until the laptop shuts down, then remove the battery. Plug in the charger, and try powering up. If all is okay, shut it back down, unplug it, and reinstall the battery. Then, plug it in and let it fully charge. Restart it, plugged in and with the battery installed. Good luck.
tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you
begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a

Ok Take out the battery and leave it out for about an hour. IN the time its out Run the laptop on AC power and then go to control panel, open power options, and remove the hibernation check, and the turn the system standby to never, then hit apply. Then turn you laptop off and re insert the battery. If you still get the shutdown where it wont run on battery, then you need to replace the battery.
i had the same problem. the battery does something during startup and the only way i found to fix it was to turn it on without a battery while its plugged into the adapter, or leave it in standby instead of shutting down... i dont know if theres a better way, but thats what i do.
I think due to Battery your laptop should not be slow . But as per the RAM in your laptop you need to add some more RAM with WinXP and SP3 with the type of Configuration it will be slow with or without power.
