Question about Hitachi 61SDX01B 61" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Automatic widescreen mode

When changing from hi-def channels to 480p resolutions(or vice-versa) on my tuner the tv automatically goes to widescreen 16:9 mode and I have to reset it back to 4:3 mode(where I like to view it). Can I get it to lock in to 4:3 mode and not go to widescreen automatically?

If memory serves, no. If I'm wrong, the would be a setting in the menu or the remote to change it from 4:3 to Set by Station or Automatic. Might say Format.

Tv is showing 480p and we want it at 1080p on our new Toshiba 40XV648 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz HD LCD TV Cinema Series.

After searching the owners manual I find that there is nothing mentioned about the screen resolution i.e. 480p to 1080p.

This set is capable of your desired resolution and as far as I can tell it auto selects because it senses the input video and decides which is the best setting for that source.

It's important to understand that you need 1080p video to use it at it's full capabilities. It won't give you a 1080p resolution from a VCR or a standard DVD player. You need a DVD player that is capable of producing a 1080p encoded video. Some satellite receivers are capable of that but you need to make sure you know what resolution that you are sending to the television.

Local TV stations won't usually broadcast HD at 1080p. Your best bet is to use a DVD player that is capable of that high resolution for your best picture.

Please note that what it says in the owners manual about "Resolution" has nothing to do with the 480p, 720p or 1080p signals, your set selects that automatically it will start by selecting the 1080p then goes to 720p then 420p it's dependent on the video you send to the set.

Please note the "resolution" function is actually like a "sharpness" control.

Your video input (tuner, VCR, DVD, games and etc.) is likely your problem.

Model LG52LG70 has a problem when switching from High Definition channels to non-high definition channels, and vice a versa. The tv simply shuts off, pauses for 10 seconds and then turns on. Time warner...

Any high def TV will momentarily go blank when changing from High Def to normal mode. Ten seconds is an abnormally long time for that to take place. If you still have a warranty on the TV I suggest you take it in to have it serviced. Otherwise you will have to pay to have this item checked out. There are a number of issues that might be causing the problem so it will be necessary to have a technician check it out.

SYLVANIA 6620LG TV - DTV??

The ;quick answer is YES, you will need a converter box to receive digital broadcasts. This set has only an analog tuner built-in. That is why it is HDTV "ready" (ready for you to add a tuner).

As for HDTV vs EDTV it is a matter of resolution. Your set is capable of EDTV resolution, which is better than SDTV (standard definition TV) but not quite as good as HDTV. With a digital tuner you will be able to view all digital programming, even HD, and it will look excellent, though not quite as sharp as a set with higher definition.

HD resolutions

Your TV would have to be HD ready and will automatically set itself to 1080i, but if you go into the XBOX 360 console settings' the top menu enables you to change resolution, but if the x box does not recognise 1080i it will not show up. See if 720i shows up as this is still High Def. and also that 60 Hertz is the setting and not 50 hertz
