RCA tv only in black and white?

Hi, I have an RCA TV model F27648 (color) that now only shows picture in Black and White. The funny thing is that all menus and Guide Plus menus are in color. Picture is the same on all inputs (cable, video1 and video 2) Any solutions? I tryed all settings and tryed to plug cable directly to TV instead of going through the components. No luck. Please help.

The route through the circuits in the TV from the various sources all lead to the final video amplifiers for red green and blue. Somewhere along the route is a circuit called a colour switch. This allows colour if the signal is strong enough, otherwise it only allows black and white. This fault suggests a weak video chip which is the one just before the switch circuit. the fault could also be a faulty coupling capacitor to or from this chip, or a low power supply voltage. Check for dry soldered joints around this circiut. Please note if resoldering on new televisions that they may have non leaded solder which requires about 50 degrees centigrade hotter iron.

It sounds to be a video output stage circuit fault. Check all the solder terminals at its CRT base card, including the solder terminals of the CRT base to the card. Re-solder all the suspected solder terminals by applying a little more fresh solder. Contact any service technician. Check the solder terminals of Red color output transisotor. If needy, replace it with a new one with same number printed on it. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy. Surf the site with patience.

Probably not. RCA parts for this model are very difficult to find. Even you could find a kit, it will not have enough to repair. A do it yourselfer or TV tech will have a difficult time repairing this. Please shop for a new TV. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support!

17 yr. old 35" RCA loses color intermittently. Picture & sound ok

Three guns Red Blue and Green in the picture tube of an old CRT set. If one of the guns goes out it effects that color. Sounds like one of the guns inside of the tube is going out, To costly to replace for such an old antilog set that will have to have a convertor box next month anyway.

One thing that comes to mind is the two main connectors on the power/deflection board. They have ribbon cable in them. If they are white in color. One of them plus the one on the convergence board that is the same size, needs to be replaced. If they are black they are good. Part number is 258686. If your serial number is between G13XXXXXX and G26XXXXXX this is a very good posibility.

Make sure that the color control level is set to the default or 50% to start with. This should be in the Video menu.

The colour for the tuner and for the encoded base-band video uses a circuit area called the colour demodulator. It is possible that this cirucuit area has failed and needs servicing.
