Here is the solution to the logon - logoff issue in Windows XP.
(assumes that problem was caused by Malware called BlazeFind)

Enter the Recovery Console

Boot the system using the Windows XP CD-ROM. In the first screen when the Setup begins, read the instructions press "R" (in the first screen) enter the Recovery Console. Type-in the built-in Administrator password to enter the Console. You'll see the prompt reading C:\Windows (Or any other drive-letter where you've installed XP)
Type the following command and press Enter.
CD SYSTEM32
(If that does not work, try CHDIR SYSTEM32)
COPY USERINIT.EXE WSAUPDATER.EXE
Quit Recovery Console by typing EXIT and restart Windows.
You'll be able to login successfully as you've created the wsaupdater.exe file (now, a copy of userinit.exe)
Now, change the USERINIT value in the registry (see Phase II in this page) and change it accordingly.

Phase II - Fixing a registry entry which causes the Quick Launch issue (not retaining the settings)

Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ WindowsNT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon
In the right-pane, change the value of Userinit to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,"

Type the above value exactly as given, including the comma - exclude the quotes. Also, change the path to userinit.exe appropriately if Windows is installed in a different drive.

Close Registry Editor and restart Windows. The Quick Launch settings should be retained now.

The service packs are available for upload via the internet "windows updates". Down on the "tray" at the lowest bottom left of your screen near the clock will be the shortcut for updates that will pop up when there are updates to install. Depending on how you have it set, "automatically" will install them when you aren't looking or "manual" which gives you the choice on when you install them but you have to do it.

I try loging on to my windows but the log on screen dont allow me enough space to put in the letters to my password how can this be fixed

If you Windows is XP, try this, when you reach the logon screen, move the mouse cursor on the blank screen and click once, now press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice on the keyboard, type in your username and try with the password. If still it doesn't allow, then type in "Administrator" on the username box and press enter, leaving the password blank. Most systems has no admin password, so if it's same with your's you'll be able to do that and you'll be allowed to login a the administrator. Once you are logged in, go to control panel and change the password of your user with a shorter one. You can now log-off from the administrator's account and login to your account with the newly created password.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Yes, you can get the password reset by loging in as an administrator, and then have the password reset for the user that you do not have..

Thats by going to My computer- right click- manage- in the new window that appears- click on user's and then click on the relavent user name you want to change the password and then reset it..

Laptop locked

you can try

in the welcome screen

press CTRL+ALT+DEL let go
press CTRL+ALT+DEL again. And let go.

The old style login screen should come up. Try loging in as

Administrator
and no password unless you have set one. Try without a password.

if you still can't login you can use a cd like this to reset the password

http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/

instructions are over that webpage.

let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

I am not able to check the option show hidden files

you need to be loged in as administrator or other account with administrator rights.

"The built-in Administrator account is hidden from Welcome Screen when a user account with Administrator privileges exists and enabled. In Windows XP Home Edition, you can login as built-in Administrator in Safe Mode only. For XP Professional, press CTRL + ALT + DEL twice at the Welcome Screen and input your Administrator password in the classic logon window that appears."
