Question about Panasonic PT-60LC14 60" Rear Projection HDTV

Panasonic PT-60LC14 Convergence Issue

Recently I've noticed blue shadowing around the white lettering of the on-screen menu wording. I'm guessing the beginning of convergence IC failure. Is there a way to adjust the convergence or do I need to replace the IC(s)? Thanks for any help!!

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

PT-53wx53g Convergence issue?

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Screen shadowing with colored lines

This is most likely a convergence problemand can easily be fixed. If you can solder you can repair this yourself. First try resoldering the pins on the convergence ICs. If that failes to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. THese are large black Ics attached to a heatsink and may be marked STKxxx.

Keep us posted.

Blue Shadow

Check power supply voltages to run convergence amps....usually
around 20 volts + & --........should be present at the two watt
resistors....beyond basics, you might need a diagram to trace
the path of the blue horiz & vert....might be an open connection somewhere.........also, check for an open pico fuse.....not too
likely, tho, becuz of the symptom.....You might take the time to go over your own work,....I often backtrack when I get the same
as before.........Let me know.................T.
