Question about Compaq Evo Notebook N200 Notebook
The HD has Widows2000 installed and normally boots up. In the BIOS the first choice is to boot up from the HD, secondly CD-ROM, third removable Device and last network Boot When I have the LAN cable plugged it is looking for a bootable server but does not find any. This seems to mean that it try the other three possibilities firts and ending up not finding bootable file. What about the UBCD I have made. Even if I change the BIOS to firts boot up from CD it give the same error. Can it be a hardware problem on the mother board?
Maybe the cmos battery is dead and is not saving the new boot sequence settings you are trying to enter. Try to obtain another cmos battery and replace it. If it still does that, then there might be some corrupted startup files that is not allowing the computer to boot

Tips for a great answer:
you might have to get rid of the virus or melware first
it sounds like you are on the path if the cd rom is being detected but not booting maybe it needs a clean place a couple of drops of liquid cd cleaner on top of a cd and run it
if still no luck
restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer
Reboot the computer As the computer is booting repeatadly press the F8 key as the computer is booting
If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen.
Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only
Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Start Windows Normally
Return to OS Choices Menu
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice
select the safe mode option
then run your antivirus if still cant get rid of the virus restart again
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.
select safe mode with networking download anti malware and microsoft security essentials
anti virus and malware
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or the F2 key
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the using arrow key scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
hope this helps
