I found one one NEW on ebay for 6.50 + shipping, total 12.49. Other parts places had them for a lot more. It wasn't too hard to install.

sounds like the lid switch is jammed on- you can try to spray it with WD 40 or replace it it usually requires taking the machine apart to get at the wiring. Easy fis, just need patience. the switch should be able to be ordered online.

Don't run all the way thru

This problem is commonly attributed to a lid switch malfunction. If the model number you have this listed under is correct, the lid switch is mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If your washer is not configured in this manner, please post back with your COMPLETE model number (located along the tub rim under the lid) so I can confirm how your washer IS configured.

If you determine that your lid switch is broken, the following link will give you the necessary steps to replace it: http://www.fixya.com/support/r397101-replacing_lid_switch You can order a replacement switch on line at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and look for item 9 under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. The lid strike is listed as item 20. NOTE: Another thing that can cause lid switch malfunctions, is the lid being bowed. This can occur from placing heavy items (such as detergent bottles and clothes baskets) on top of the washer. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know before you rate the solution. I hope this helps you.

If the washer fills and stops at the rinse cycle, and then will not spin or drain, you more than likely have a defective lid switch. If you open and close the washer lid and do not hear a “clicking” sound, the switch has probably come loose, or has broken. There are two mounting screws that hold the switch in place along the washer rim. Also, inspect the lid to ensure the small plastic piece that pushes down on the switch when the lid is closed has not broken off. This is called the “lid strike”. If the lid strike is broken or missing, the lid switch will not activate. If you diagnose the problem and need to replace the switch, you can click on the following link for advice on how to replace it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397101-replacing_lid_switch

If you need further assistance, such as where to get replacements parts, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: You do not need to drain the wash tub to replace the switch. Once the switch has been replaced, the washer should spin and drain, which will prevent you from needing to bail water.
