It does not have a drain plug. You can remove the dip stick and tilt the mower to pour out the oil, or you can use one of those hand pump syphon units to pump it out.

There should be a drain plug on the underside of the mower deck. Raise that side of deck, remove the plug and drain the oil. Replace the plug and add new oil. Hope this helped.

SOURCE: My Troy Built Self propelled

Hi smithjazzy8...
Check your oil level, it sounds like it has got too much oil in the crankcase.
The oil level should be to the last two threads on the fill plug threads of the engine.
This is the main cause of white smoke coming from the exaust of the engine.

WHAT KIND OF OIL SHOULD I BE USING ON MY TROYBUILD 230 MOWER AND CAN I SUBSTITUTE MOTOR OIL?

Probably can substitute, but you really need the Owner's manual, especially if still in warranty. You don't want to jeopardize the Warranty. Try the MFG website or manualslib.com for the owner's manual with the correct oil specified.

Where is the oil change plug

The plug is under the mower on the bottom of the engine. Make sure you take the spark plug wire off before you work, remove the blade (it needs sharpening anyway right?) and then tilt the mower on its side WITH THE CARBURETOR UP. position an aluminum cake tin under the mower so that once you remove the oil plug using a 3/8" ratchet you can set the mower back down over the cake tin and it will catch the oil. Don't forget to put the plug back in =-)

How do you remove the gears on a front wheel self propelled troy bilt push mower?

Take the front tires off, pull gears and take out pins, put tires back on and you have a "non-self propell" mower.

Can't find the oil drain plug on Troy Bilt with 5.5 Honda engine

You may want to look under the deck. They sometimes put them there. And if it is a self propelled, you will probably need to remove or loosen the plastic cover that protects the self propelled belt.

You are looking for a nickel sized plug that has a square peg. Use an extension piece for a socket set if you don't have the proper plug removal tool.

Oil drain plug

Drain plug is not necessary. Remove the dipstick and tip the mower to the side the dipstick is on and use the dipstick tube as a drain.
