Have you tried to boot in Safe Mode?

Tap F8 repeatedly when it begins to boot. Try to boot to last know good configuration. If that fails, try it again, this time try to boot to safe mode.

Your startup repair option in Windows Install indicates a hardware conflict. Go to your System Setup in startup mode, by pressing Del, F2 or F10 whichever the hint is on screen during bootup. Once inside system setup, turn off almost everything, disable Speed Stepping in EPower, set monitor off to disable, Standby and Hibernation off as well. Turn off the modem and Network adapter if yo can. Just about everything that affects a device on the laptop. This would also include the Touch Pad if you're using a mouse.

And, in the long run, you may need to do a full Windows Install if the repair option continues to fail. Many of these failures are due to the Virtual Memory file size for Drive C being too low. If you can get into Safe Mode change this setting, right click My Computer, select Properties, go to Advanced, advance and change Virtual Memory on C to a fixed size about 1024Meg for min and max.

Also, should you be low on free space for drive C this could cause the same problem. You would have to choose a Full Install as an Option unfortunately.

In the absence of anything along these lines working, you should be able to choose Restore Acer option (or words to this affect), you would want to tap on F8 while booting, sometimes its F10, but this gives you a 'boot from what source' option, CDROM, Hard Drive or Restore Partition. Choose the Restore Partition and start over from scratch again.

Sorry, but this often happens and you and I have to live with this.

If you need any clarifications on what I've just stated, use the Comment Box Text Entry box below to send me a message. I'll get an email alert and will get back to you as soon as I can.

Regards,
Worldvet

"Windows failed to start. A

Hello,
It sounds to me like the harddrive has errors on it. First, I would try completely reinstalling windows with the windows disk. If that does not solve the problem there are several pieces of software that are much stronger harddrive repair solutions than the built in Windows one. Try this one, it is free for 10 days. You will need another computer (friend's computer?) to download and burn this software onto a CD, then put the CD in your computer and boot to it by pressing any key when it asks you to.

How do I get ride of the message: "Vaio Sat Survey.exe has stopped working" on my new VGN-NW 120J

Hi There !!

Thank you for writing to Fixya.com

The Sony Vaio softwares are not updated correctly, That's the reason it might be crashing, on the other hand you always need to consider the Windows Update as well. My suggestion would be:

  1. Click Start
vistastartbutton.jpg in the Start Search box.
  2. Type msconfig, and then press ENTER.

securityshield.jpg If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
  3. Click the Startup tab, and then unchecked the Vaio Sat Survey.exe, if you find it.These are software that Computer Manfacturer installs on your system initially & they rarely good for the users.
Now after that, Go to windows update & perform the Windows Update.
Need help with windows update, check the link below.

After installing all the latest updates, Restart the machine.

Hope this will help.

How to repair BSOD STOP: c000021a logon terminated with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

That's a real pain, 0xc000021a indicates that the actual Windows logon procedure has failed/terminated/crashed because it can't run/start the needed code (= 0xc0000005).

In other words: some files needed by Windows to start the logon sequence are corrupt. This can be caused by a faulty Windows Update or (perhaps more likely) a virus or spyware.

The problem with this kind of BSOD is that you can't boot into safe mode and that choosing "Last known good configuration" in the Windows XP boot menu (accessed by pressing F8 directly after the BIOS startup screen) probably won't work either.

All this means that manually repairing it is very hard, unless you really know what you're doing. Your best chance is booting from the original Windows setup CD and choosing the "Repair an existing Windows installation". You can find a detailed guide here: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/operatingsystems/ss/instxprepair1.htm

When the repair succeeds and you're able to logon to Windows again, it's best to just save all your personal documents, e-mail, etc. on an external HDD or burn them on a CD/DVD and do a full clean reinstall of Windows afterwards.

Please note that after "repairing" some installed programs may not work anymore and need reinstalling. And a repaired Windows (especially when it might have been infected with malware before) is like a car which is 'fixed' after a heavy crash, you'd better stay away from it ...

Tried to install update and computer crashed

A few ways to try and eliminate.
Upon startup F8 for safe mode: Last Know Configuraton

Hit F8 for safe mode. Go into accessories>system tools>system restore
Doesn't work then: need Windows CD setup. Let it run and hit R for Recovery Console. At the DOS prompt type FIXMBR or FIXBOOT.

Several things you can try...first, if System Restore is enabled (not recommended because viruses love to eat and grow in there), boot into Safe Mode (F8 at startup). If you can get into safe mode, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore ...the SP update automatically creates a restore point before it begins (about the only thing that Microsoft actually got right!), and you should be able to select that restore point and go back to before you ran the update.

If that does not work, or you cannot get into safe mode, then you will need to run a Windows repair using your original Windows CD or factory recovery disc(s). Make sure to run a "repair", not a "clean install", else you will lose all your data. (if you don't care about saving data, I recommend a clean install).

If the repair doesn't work, your only real choice is to do a clean install, following the steps just above. However, you will lose all your documents, so if they are important to you, take your computer to a PC service tech or facility and have them backup your files first. It'll cost you, but probably not that much. I normally charge my clients $60/hr to backup their data, and usually it only takes about 30 minutes for 1-5GB of data.

After that (or without that), run the Windows "clean" install and you're back in business!

Hope this helps - remember to rate :)
